7 blade to 4 pin wiring adapter ??

Does anyone know the right 7 blade to 4 pin wiring adapter for the tow package on an '07 Taco? My boat trailer has the old style 4 pin connector, I bought an adapter at Kragen, guy told me they were universal but it's not working with my truck. It does work with my Uncle's Chevy so I know the adapter is good. I went back to Kragen and they didn't have any different type of adapter, so I'm wondering if there is something custom I need or if maybe I need to check my wiring?? I just got this boat and this is the first time I have tried towing anything with my truck. Anybody had any similar issues or know anything about this? Any help appreciated. Thanks.

 

Did the adapter plug all the way into the truck.

 

I got mine at walmart I think I paid like $8 for it.

 

Wow! That was quick. Yes it did plug all the way in, it was one of the ones with the LED's that are supposed to tell you if the wiring is right, on my truck the lights all blinked, on my Uncle's they were all solid. Too bad the adapter didn't come with a legend that said exactly what the lights mean.

 

I have the same one i think that the blinking means that you have a short somewhere.

 

I would check the legs of the plug on your truck with a test light. That will give you an idea of where to start looking for the short.

 

Yeah I'm thinkin you're right 98, I'm gonna get my multimeter out later and see if I'm getting any voltage on those blades. Thanks for the reply!

Check the ground first. I have seen them come loose before.

 

Big thanks to mwild and 98tacoma27! Confirmed my suspicions, even though I was hoping that wouldn't be the case, at least I know what to check now. Thanks guys. I'll post an update once I get it solved, for anyone interested.
