I have the opportunity to drive a 2010 taco for 2 weeks since my 03 is in getting a brand new frame, rear leaf susp, fuel and brake lines ( Thanks Toyota). I noticed that the radio seems a little under powered in this 2010 compared to my 2003 (stock radio). Is the JBL package on the new trucks worth the money? Did anyone buy this option??? I would greatly appreciate any opinions on the matter.

I bought the option. Having the bluetooth was worth it. System was plenty loud, but don't expect a lot of clarity. For the money, I wish I hadn't bought it and just replaced all the components on day 1. If you are involved in business where you need the bluetooth, consider it. If not, I might suggest passing and putting in your own system.

I test drove one with the JBL - I thought it sounded horrible. However, the question is, can you get the same offroad package, etc. without the upgraded radio? When I get my next tacoma, I want the top of the line 4x4 package, but don't want the radio.... I'd much rather take that money and add an aftermarket system.

I want the integrated blu tooth system as well - so I might be forced to get the stock radio.

I haven't heard one in a tacoma, but i know that the one in my dads 2008 tundra crewmax kinda sucks. I mean it aounds a bit better than just a regular one but its not that much better. I think its because I expected more from JBL.

If you dont plan on an aftermarket system, it works great. I decided to put an aftermarket system in, and it's a pain in the ass. Right now I'm running the stock jbl amp for my speakers, and I spliced into the factory wires and used a converter so I could use an aftermarket amp also to power my subs.

It came with mine, I personally think it sounds good enough for what I need. Bluetooth is a life saver!

We like it for what it is right now. Our kiddos are still babies so we aren't going to do any audio mods until they are much older. I am not as impressed as I thought I would be with the bass (sp?). It's pretty weak IMO.

Love the bluetooth though! My dad got a $242 ticket for talking on his cell phone a few months ago.

me either. you'd think as much as you pay for it, it would sound decent. of course, decent to one person isn't necessarily decent to another, as it's subjective. i remember the bottom end sounding especially bad.

Either you guys are hard to please or we are speaking of diffrent systems. I have an 09 with the 7 speaker JBL - for a stock system it sounds pretty good I think. You can spend thousands in aftermarket amps and speakers and do better of course, but for a stock system I am very happy with it.

Yea I agree, as mine still sounds pretty good after 5 years and I would buy again. It is relatively cheap too, but if you are used to high dollar custom systems then you probably wont like it.

I think sound quality is definately subjective.

It sounds okay to me. But I did notice, now that I have had the truck for about 6 weeks, that it doesn't seem quite as loud as it did when I purchased it. I'd turn it to level 20 & it was really loud to me, louder than in my FJ. Either I'm losing my hearing because level 30 is loud. lol

I really like the way it sounds. Yes, you can put a killer aftermarket system in, but imo the JBL sounds better than any factory Bose or other system I have heard. I am and have been in the car rental industry for the last 19 years. I have pretty much heard them all and frankly, I couldn't be happier with a stock system. Especially the Ipod through it.
