Good to know, stopped by a dealership yesterday just to look and they said early 2000's diesels don't last long at all on the lot. Always wanted a diesel but I am quickly finding out they are expensive. All I really need is something that will tow 6500lbs and be able to hold the dirtbike and toys in the bed. I will keep my options open and not limit myself to one or the other.

Just re-torqued the u-bolts about 700 miles after adding a mini leaf pack. I turned 7 nuts 2-3 times. One nut I turned about 5-6 times. I feel better now :)

You are doing it all wrong. Should have went off-roading until they broke and then try to pull your truck down a hill...

You pretty much nailed why I re-torqued them.

    OH MY FREAKING GOD

I think we finally found the problem with my transmission and solved it. Please store this in your memory banks for future use.

Basically I was having issues with it bouncing between gears at around 60mph. It would occasionally do it at slower speeds. Replaced the TPS, still did it. Cleaned the MAF, didn’t help. Took a while for it to finally throw a code which was a “shift solenoid B malfunction”. Took the pan off and ended up replacing all three solenoids while we were in there.

Took it out for a drive...did the same exact thing and threw the same code for what we just replaced. Wtf. Continued to rack our brains for months, talking to knowledgeable people, many of whom had similar issues and could never find the cause and ended up buying a whole new trans. Didn’t really want to spend that kind of money...searched junkyards to no avail.

There were a few more possibilities on what it could be but they involved digging into the truck deeper and I really didn’t want to go back into that transmission we just put back together. More and more research and we stumbled across a posting on another forum with a similar issue. Engine Coolant Temp sensor. Right on top of the engine and just a few things to move to get to.

    It fixed it. *dies*

Basically it couldn’t tell what temperature the engine was at so it was kicking it in and out of overdrive. And also making the fuel mixture rich and adjusting the timing improperly.

Which is why it threw a shift solenoid code because it was flickering on and off in the trans. It all makes sense now. Lol

Nice, glad you got it figured out. Hopefully you didn't drop too much coin on those solenoids.

Heading to CO for a long weekend this month. Anyone have any suggestions for things to do or places to eat near Mancos?

None yet... except removing mud flaps

If you are going through pagosa springs on your way check out those hot springs. Durango is also a cool town and if you head north to silverton or Ouray those are incredible spots. Ouray is a town inside a box canyon. You can’t go wrong stopping at any small brewery’s along the way if you enjoy beer!
