I could not agree with your thoughts more. My Tundra was an auto. My problem with an auto, if you're doing any serious stuff off-road, you cannot push start it, the auto trans will eventually need a $4k overhaul, no auto can ever predict gears like a human can, clutches are cheaper, lighter; better resale. An auto is eventfully going to fail.

If you can afford time, I'd wait for a manual, no matter the engine.

I agree with basically everything @Speedytech7 has said, lots more space to work in the bay, seems easier to diagnose issues, the v6 isn't all that much more powerful, as was said 190 vs 150hp and 220 vs 177lbft torque, personally I think the 2.7 is more reliable as well, but I have no statistics in that department. Im not saying I wouldn't get the v6, my brother has a '95 v6 and its nice, but I don't have many complaints with the 2.7. If you do get the 2.7 don't get the auto.. Dont even get a v6 auto lol
However I have no idea how @Speedytech7 can keep up with v6's o_O

Does anybody have a hard limit on the amount of miles you’d buy one with? Personally I’d like to be under 175k. That 200k mark is like the dark unknown. But then again I’ve never owned a Toyota.

I do hate on them. LOL

First, half them fail before they make it to the trail and second, they can't haul camping gear.

We all have different missions. My mission is to get to the back country with enough space to bring all my gear, while it 'least makes me feel safe on the highway - hey, you have to get there first. That 'aint happening in the Chrysler alternative.

I bought my newest one with 215k.

I based my decision on having 8k cash I saved, to spend, plus the year. Stuff wears out over time, so I considered both time and miles.

I have a supercharger, I'm well geared and I'm not afraid to run each gear change up to 4k rpm haha. The 2.7L has some grunt, and it is dead reliable. @Lmlguy15 I had 175k when I bought my truck, now I have 265k and I just put a supercharger on and she's going really strong. Infact I'm going wheeling in Moab at the end of the month.

Depending on your region, you may pay a super-pretty price for something around 150k. I went for that too, originally, but eventually caved my mileage requirements for what I wanted. Keep looking and you too might find the right truck with 200k fits you, especially if it gives you money left to work with.

Auto is what makes yours hell though, manual would make you competitive with v6s on pavement.

It's a compounding issue. It steals a lot from the V6 too but it seems much worse when you start with less power. But even before I got the supercharger I could hang with a v6 on the highway and from a light there wasn't a huge difference. The manual helps you stay where you make power and there's less parasitic draw too.

Actually, yes. Or at least part of it. My truck had to be: dependable, strong yet "lightweight" (for offroading), with a good towing capacity/capability, and be able to keep with traffic in both Denver (where I live) and Tampa (where I'm from).

I have the TRD headers and a Magnaflow cat back in boxes, ready for install. I should be getting the URD supercharger within the next 18 months. When is all said and done, 270-290 HP at the crank is the goal.

You must have gotten the one 2.7l they made that does. I've had 4, and they averaged below 20 mpg. Compared to an 8 cyl, maybe so. Don't get me wrong, I like mine just fine, but wish it was a little more economical.

I have the 2.7 Auto with 265/75/16. It's definitely not as fast as it used to be, but I'm not the slowest on the road either. Holds speed well, just takes awhile to get there lol
MPG is around 15-16 for me

My 3.4na manual has plenty of power even with its 3.15 gears and 30” tires, granted i am also only 2wd. But i can hit 80 like its nothing and keep pulling all the way to 100 pretty fast for a little truck(dont go that fast kinda sketchy lol). I still can smoke tires if i wanted to(but i dont because 200$ plus for a tire isn’t very wallet friendly). That being said i also have the older style throttle body that isnt slow to react when you hit the gas like later on Toyotas with there weird electic throttle body thing.

Yeah but 90k behind the wheel of a 2.7 has got to be pure madness. I don't know how the 2.7 guys do it because I think the 3.4 is kind of slow
