So I was looking for a suspension upgrade for my OR. My requirements were to level truck, be rebuildable, hold up to Midwest winters & under $1,500. Short list was either Fox stage 2, 6112/5160's or take offs from a TRD Pro. I rode in a 6112/5160 equipped Tacoma & was not to my liking. Last week I was able to buy used TRD Pro Fox shocks from a member of this site. During the install today I took a few pictures of the size comparison to the OR shocks. Pretty funny. Install took no time. Did a alignment afterwards & got great numbers. 2 degrees of caster was no problem. I did a before & after ride height measurement as well. Gained a inch of height up front. Drove about 50 miles so far with mixed roads. First thing noticed is the brake dive is greatly reduced from the OR setup. The compression & rebound seem much more controlled as well. Overall very pleased with the purchase. IMG_0039.jpgIMG_0038.jpg

So can you compare it to the 6112/5160? What I'm trying to get to in here is their a real deference between bilstein pro and fox pro? Or it is just toyota landing a cheaper contract with FOX!

the OR suspension really is kinda shitty... Mine wanders on the roads and dives like a SOB, feels like I'm driving on a trampoline at times...

Toyota is the master of hype and over-marketing basic shit... and we all fall for it.

The TRD Fox shocks feel more compliant/controlled over everything you drive over. The 6112/5160 really felt harsh over small imperfections in the road & rebound felt off. Mind you he had K02's & im on Wildpeaks. My truck is a daily driver & wont be doing serious off-roading. My off-road will consist of fire roads & gravel access roads.

Enough to raise it 2 inches up front.

Ok, so that's the most lift you can get out of them from what I'm aware. The fact that you said they have a harsher ride to the Pro shocks is more to do with that than the shocks themselves I would think.

The bilsteins are also digressive and fox is linear/progressive. No doubt the preload is playing a bit part tho

The brake dive is the worst part about the OR suspension I think. I wanted a Pro but couldn't afford one so a Certified OR was what I got. I knew before buying it that the suspension would need to be replaced right away.

KO2s will do that. I had KOs on my first Tacoma and I think I had gotten used to how the truck rode with them. It's been about 2 years since it got totaled on me (grrrr) and I've run my 3G on either the OEM tires or P-rated Hankook snow tires and have gotten used to the more car-like ride. I put KO2s on two weeks back and was surprised how much harder the truck rode over bumps. I'm sure I"ll get used to it again, so that could be a big reason for the harshness, but the rebound is likely a product of the suspension, not the tires.

I have no real world experience.

My point was just that you can't really compare the two shocks if one is using springs already pre-loaded by quite a bit

Glad I made the switch as well, yes they ride better than the OEM Bilsteins.

But wait, how can this be possible when all the TRD OR owners who bash on TRD pro trucks say that there is no ride height gained? Are they wrong?.................

You must've went with an E load tire, because I noticed hardly any difference at all after putting on 265 70 17 in a C load.
