I’m leaning towards something like that.
Not an expert with electric stuff but I know this things getting power and not doing anything.

Take a look at a diagram of your pump before disassembling it. The piston is installed one way because of the skirt...it creates air pressure through that skirt remaining in contact with the cylinder walls, very similar to compression in a gas motor. If your unit did seize, you can buy a new piston and cylinder for a basic rebuild and be done with it. Wait till you see how simplistic the design is inside.

Could it be an internal wiring problem in the compressor itself? First thing that pops into my head

    I think it’s cooked.

At this point I’m leaning towards just buying a dual and calling it done.

It sounds electrical more so then mechanical. When my pump failed, both lights worked on the switches.

Jon- getting ready to do this. Getting the right spot is what I'm trying to work through.

I'm trying to bring the pin as close to the radiator core as possible.

The red pencil is pointing at where the rubber hood stopper lands on the radiator support. Is this where you mounted your pin?

The yellow pencil is pointing at a possible location closer to the radiator, as you suggested. Any further left, I hit the raised curvature of the hood. But the problem with this location, is that the radiator support is not level/parallel to the hood. If I sandwich bolt the pin onto the support, it wont be plumb. Need to make it level some how.

The pen is pointing at a start of a crack.

Here are some pics. Can you confirm that my location is OK before I mark and cut?

These mofos really need to stop driving with their lightbars on! Number one your not cool, it’s the middle of the day and your on pavement. Two, one day Jersey is gonna get fed up with complaints and ban uncovered light bars like other states. Three, go back to the malls you came from.

Seriously. WTF is wrong with these ass hats driving around with LEDs on the street. I’ve been seeing it on everything from mall crawling Jeeps to semis.

How does anyone think this is OK?

If anyone reading this comment does this, you’re an idiot.

It doesn't need to be plumb. The latch can handle about 5* of angularity. That location should be good. With a crack already forming, you should plan on some reinforcement of the core support.
