    This got kinda messed up, I am new.


    I just got my first ever new car!

    She's a 2018 Tacoma SR5 V6 Access Cab in Midnight Black (Automatic).

    So far so sweet! I got a ride for three hours because it was the only Access Cab Tacoma in Black within a 250 miles of my home. This particular vehicle model seems to be rare. I have yet to see one.

    It kinda shifts a little strange unexpected though. Sometimes it can't decide between two gears? Is this normal?

    Also, any special break-in recommendations I should know?

    Yes the shifting is normal around your first service it should start to straighten out. Mine got better around 7k don’t be afraid to smash the skinny pedal.

    You betcha. Probably the biggest single complaint is the 3rd gen transmission. Piles of threads. You'll find some folks report improvements as it 'learns', some folks find issues (low fluid), some folks have free work arounds, some folks buy expensive work arounds. Some folks have no issues at all.

    Follow the owners manual. Other than the gee whiz electronics, it's still just another vehicle. I hope your 3 hr ride wasn't at steady interstate speeds. You'll read break in should have variance in the RPM.

    Congratulations, you choose wisely.


    Yes, "normal", and most likely temporary. There seems to be some variance in how the new transmission operates. Some members of TW report it goes away after logging some miles- could be the transmission "learns", could be that the operator "learns".

    Either way, don't get too frustrated, take it slow and there are options if you decide you want aftermarket enhancements.


    Read the owners manual for break in procedure- many opinions on TW, but the manual should be your first source for any questions, in my opinion.
