You just need to see what jods are available and see what they actually have for requirements. Post secondary schooling and the pay is minimal. Its ridiculous. In the end you dont even learn any useful skills that can be utilized outside of your place of employment.

Have an interview monday with IBEW. After going to college and being advised by professors on how to land a job in a field they've never actually worked in...fuck going back to school. Decided to go for a skill that many know nothing about that pays well and can't really be outsourced.

Lol, old young, doesn't really matter as long as you can do the job. Me personally though, I'm a pathway for the young folk.

I've been hanging out with a group of people this week, among whom are several "automobile techs" in their twenties. Cool guys, very VERY knowledgeable, and hungry to learn more. It felt good to be around young folks who weren't wearing man buns or whinging about some imagined slight. I'm old, I called myself a "mechanic" back when I twisted wrenches. These guys went to school, and came of school into good jobs; one works at a BMW dealer (I was hanging with BMW folks this week) and the other works for Hendrick Motorsports. Not too shabby.

Old man problems are one thing, but crap work ethic from a lot of young people today is another. We had someone that quit after a year because working four tens with three days off which included the weekend was cutting into to their video game time. He had to be out of town overnight for three of those days. The funny, but sad part was he tried to reapply eight months later.

LOL - Back with his between his legs after realizing what the rest of the world was like and how good he had it at your place. How was his application handled, i.e. dismissed out of hand, called but denied, called for interview to rub it in before denial? Either way, he learned a life lesson.

They sent him an email, the standard generic response we've decided to pursue other candidates at this time. He did give notice when he quit, but couldn't even make good on his last two weeks. He made it 2-3 days before quitting. The real kicker is he went to work a low level/low pay job in the time he was gone. We've heard a rumor that his girlfriend is pregnant so there is that. I hope this was a growing experience for him.

Where I work the turnover rate is pretty large. Mostly because new younger guys refuse to strive for greatness.
" Im not gonna do that for what I get paid"
" I dont get paid to be a lead"
I always tell them that from a ownership stand point, they want to see if you can handle the task before you get the pay. Why would they give you a raise only to watch you fail or be mediocre at your job. Thats poor business strategy.
    Theyll never understand.
I busted my ass for my company and went through some shit that no employee should have to. It was recognized, I didnt get instant gratitude but continued to work hard.
Finally my hard work was recognized and I am very comfortable where I am.
This is coming from having no schooling.

Last fall I did lawn care with a church friend while I was in school. He brought on another kid that someone recommended. His girlfriend was pregnant, they we're 17. The kid didn't even make it to lunch time before he was vomiting behind a bush. I see 6 months later he was arrested for domestic abuse...

    What a winner!
