So they are both red and shaped like pliers? The channel locks do look very similar, but it's still not obvious that it's the same grade of steel, same heat treat, same forging operation, etc.

After looking at a few comments on that video, some of the people that have used them agree with you about the quality of the metal.

Has anyone used the HF inner the rod tool? Doing some work on a friends CRV and thinking about trying it out.

    Yawn...
Used it when I worked in car shops. Handy tool to have with the exception of cars where the inner tie rod was too close to other parts and there wasn't enough clearance. You should be alright with this and the CRV.

I don't. I just wouldn't say they are the equivalent of MAC pliers for cheaper. They just pliers until we confirm these things.

Edit: For the record, I have plenty of HF stuff. It's fine. I just don't make it a habit of assuming it's as good as more expensive stuff.

I use the drill master, have no complaints-- would you recommend the Hercules upgrade and why?

They have another one in between. Drill master one too weak for my project.

Yes I would, because it has a more powerful motor. Proved to work better for me.

Didn't work on the tacoma when I tried it. Ended up using a clamp ring with a 3/8th adapter on it that I bought for cheap on Amazon. It works on every tie rod I have ever tried so far.

The Hercules stuff looks like an improvement but I imagine there's still the issue of getting replacement parts. I can repair my Milwaukee, if the Hercules shits the bed I imagine it goes in the trash (?)

I subscribe to a YouTube channel called "Red Beard and The den of Tools". One piece of advice he gave was that some brand named tools are compatible with HF brands when needing replacement parts. I post a comment on his latest video asking your question and this was his response:
Red Beard and The Den of Tools14 minutes ago
Getting parts from HF is usually a non issue. As in it's not an issue because it will never happen. As to parts from other brand name tools for this... its a bit early to say how much of a duplicate will be.

I've never needed parts for any of my HF tools, but then again I don't use them every day.
