Performed the same upgrade to the tweeters on Friday, and really have enjoyed the difference. Glad I did it.

I was able to do the drivers side without removing the A-pillar (no broken tabs), but when doing the passenger side you will definitely need to take the A-pillar off as that speaker cover has an upright tab that locks underneath the A-pillar. I felt the resistance before getting into trouble, so both covers were safe from necessitating repair. I did feel the wiring to the speakers was short, and my gorilla hands had trouble getting one hand to hold the wires and the other hand in the narrowing portion of the windshield with the speakers to disconnect & reconnect.

So now after listening for a few days...I am impressed. I am glad I did it, but also upset at myself for not doing it sooner.

Just got the new tweeters. 25 minutes later I have to say it's a great upgrade. Thanks Op!

Just bought these and added them to my box of upgrades for when the new truck gets here. Thanks for the tip.

You will be happy when you do. I did the fronts this morning. Will do the backs tomorrow. I went with the Kicker's from Crutchfield. The tweeters are great but the new doors really help balance it out. If you want big boom you'll need to add a sub, but the bass and mids with this combo now is plenty for me. I can hear it clearly and it has punch when it's supposed to. The oem fronts had low end, but it was so muddy it made the mids sound like crap, and the mids on the oem's did little.

As others have said, 80-85% of a really nice custom replacement for 20% of the cost.:thumbsup:

I put a set of Kicker 43CSC6934's in front and will put 43CSC674's in back tomorrow morning. Just the Subi tweeters and Kicker fronts are a huge upgrade over stock, but the oem backs still provide some pretty muddy low end. I suspect the back Kickers will be a little more of an incremental upgrade, but overall it's a cheap and extremely effective upgrade.

I am surprised at what they get out of the oem speakers, but with that said, they are still not very good.

Just did the swap last week and am very underwhelmed. I'm not really sure what I was expecting, these are tweeters after all, but yeah... almost no change. There is some increased clarity for sure. Definitely not worth anywhere near $90.

It's a bummer that it doesn't seem to work as well with the SR/SR5 head units.

So, you are adding these speakers to the stock head unit? No amps or a sub? You got them off of crutchfield?

I got these. Think they’ll be ok for the doors?

They will be but you will need adapters to mount them.

The stock head unit seems to do fine, the sound is really good for the amount of money spent.

They included mounting adapters and wiring plugs for free. Should make it easy. We’ll see. How hard is it to take the door panels off. I don’t have the truck yet, so I don’t know.

Is this mod worthwhile to do with the JL premium audio package?

Yes. The speakers in the JBL system are still paper garbage.
