Last summer my truck always had trouble starting after i drove somewhere when its hot out. it would turn over but not start. I would have to try a bunch of times. It has started to get hot out now and it just did it to me the other day. Any ideas? -Thanks

If it turns over then its not the starter, it is an ignition or fuel delivery problem. I would say its an ignition problem if it is effected by heat. Does your check engine light come on?

Thoroughly clean your throttle body. Replace your air filter. Seafoam your gas. Then reset your ECU and get out on the highway for a few miles. Skol.

*You did do plug wires at plug change?

Had an '89 that did tahe same thing. Did the throttle body service, plugs, rotor & cap, plug wires turned out to be distributer. Brought it to Toyota a whole bunch of times they could never figure it out. Dont know if it is the same problem for you? If its orginal you might want to change it?

I had a shop run a high pressure cleaner through my throttle body. I dont think that is it.

So I have this same problem on my girlfriends 96 tacoma. When its hot out and after i have driven it, it won't start for about a half hour so one day I checked it for spark while it wouldn't fire. I had no spark for a half hour then it started. I have replace starter, cap and rotor, plug wires. What would cause no spark for a half an hour?

Intermittent hot start problems can indicate a failing Hall-effect sensor, either Crank Position Sensor or Camshaft Position Sensor. This is very common at 100-150k miles on European cars with Bosch sensors, but less so on Japanese makes. Oftentimes they don't throw a code until they die for good (which means "no start" at all, ever.)

If it's really bugging you, you might swap-in a known good Crank Position Sensor. I would guess the part is $75.
