Only reason they’ve asked me is to make sure I’m under my covered annual mileage, which I always am as it’s 19k per year. Above that and I’d need a different coverage, and premium. :notsure:

    going to be fun!
I was not able to find it but I know there was a lawsuit a few years back about this very thing. I was in an accident 4 years ago (not my fault) and I got a call from the other insurance company because I pulled the event data recorder they went to pull data at the storage yard without my permission. .....

    Makes a good point.
Does anyone here have the Title to their vehicle? I think not.
We have a Certificate of title. Two different things.
Kinda like how a gift certificate is not the actual gift. Just kinda interesting.

I worked for a county agency as a seasonal once to interpret aerial photos of people’s yards - looking for RV’s, pools, boats, etc... anything to show they were tax cheats and not real churches, and for code violations (unpermitted building, etc.)... Big gov stuff.

Somehow my new Ram powerwagon wirelessly communicates on its own to mother ship and uploads my mileage, oil life, tire pressure etc. Its pretty nuts. The only reason I even know this is because they send me an email every 2 weeks with my trucks current readouts.

It's amazing what car companies are collecting for data, to sell and increase profits.

    New article from Consumer Reports:

My insurance company told me the way they do it is you get a standard rate to start. If you ask for a mileage based discount, they will pull the history report and look at the mileage between inspections to confirm you do less than 7500/year or whatever their cutoff was.

It is interesting...thought proof of ownership is the MCO (manufacturers certificate of origin) that’s the document the DMV needs to be in possession of in order to issue a certificate of title. Being the “registered owner” you have property rights and a certificate of title is an occupancy permit granting you property rights to occupy and possess the vehicle as a tenant. A tenant is a person holding real property by private ownership an or corporation and we are a corporation. It is what it is...just most don’t look at it that way...after all nobody likes to buy a vehicle they can’t own!

Explain to me then how I am able to buy a car, get the title and never register or insure it? How does the state "own" the vehicle in this instance? You only register the vehicle if you want to use it on public roads, and even then I don't buy your argument.

Agreed. I can cut my truck up with a cutting torch, sell it as scrap and hand in my plates.
