Just was under the truck today and found my carrier bearing almost has fallen off. Just wanted to put out a public service announcement before you have an accident. Tighten your nuts. :muscleflexing:

It will be taken care of under warranty so far. But it could have been a lot worse. I did get a sweet 2018 till I get mine back.

    Get back under the truck
Prop up the shaft in place
    Remove the other screw/nut/washer
    Get into another vehicle
    Drive to Ace/HD/Lowe's
Match and buy 2 sets and locktite
    Drive home
    Get under the truck
    Install them
    Problem fixed.
Why depend on the dealer and add more "work done" to your truck rap sheet?

Im a car guy and yes this is an easy no brainer fix but if it were me I would rather have the issue documented with the dealership if still under warranty. If I have drive shaft issues 10K later I dont want the dealership asking me why there are home depot bolts holding the carrier bearing on.

Thats just me though. If not under warranty I would have taken the 10 min to fix it with bolts in the garage.

At this point it’s getting fixed for free. They gave me a car to drive while it’s in the shop. If it wasn’t in warranty I would have to follow your list. But it also brings light to the company about the problem. I don’t plan on selling it so the rap sheet can be a mile long for all I care. As long as it works correctly and safely it’s fine. I didn’t think having work done effected your value unless it was wrecked then repaired anyways.

    Glad you caught that op!

In hindsight, any symptoms? I'm thinking that thing would be making some vibes/noises.

Anyway, I'll be checking mine the next time the zerks get the grease lol.

No extra noises, I usally blast the music when I’m driving. And no extra vibes I could tell at least more than normal. I’m just happy nothing happened. Right before I got under the car yesterday I had just got back from taking the family shopping. So I’m thankful it held.

Good catch. Very smart to let the dealer do it and have it documented. A lot of "Shade-Tree" guys here. Save that stuff for when the Warranty you paid for expires or you have jacked with the truck so much that the dealer won't touch it.

Dude...taking 1 minute to replace a bolt that you can buy at any hardware store vs giving up your truck for a couple of days is far from " shade tree " mechanic work o_O. A dealer can not deny you warranty service due to aftermarket accessories, edu-macate yourself on the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.

The Magnuson-Moss Act is all fine, but when it comes down to it, they can easily deny warranty work due to aftermarket accessories. The only way to fight it would be to lawyer up, and that isn't always worth it.
