I was thinking that on my test drive...didn't realize the numbers were going to be hopping all over the place so much (makes sense I guess). I can see that getting irritating especially at night.

What, you don't just love the back and forth swiping of the LEDs around the edge and the numbers switching faster than your brain can comprehend haha. My buddy with the 600hp 300zx has that gauge and I used to borrow his car all the time and that and the truboost would drive me batshit. I just covered them once I could tell everything was driving fine. He's the reason I only buy analog gauges now haha. From what I remember you can dim them somehow and even turn off the outer ring.

He threw the shocks on there just to screw with us, they clearly have no function as installed. I think this is going to be his Bed-Mounted Upgraded Cadillac Horn Stage 1000 Amplification Unit.

I totally need to put some Cadillac Horns on this thing.

You didn’t see the rear suspension yet!

Have you confirmed this works on 1st gens? I don't have a reason to believe it doesn't, I just wasn't sure. Figured it's late 90s/early 2000's so it might not have fuel cutoff integrated yet. I drive assuming it does.

Yeah we have fuel cutoff, anytime you're coasting in gear the truck will go into open loop indicating it has cut off injector pulse, because why bother doing anything when you're being forced by something else to that speed.

Haven’t been pleased with the engine temps my ultra gauge has been reading out (around 204, high side hitting 210) so I decided to investigate. Removed my thermostat to find the jiggle valve at about 3 o’clock. Removed the thermostat, put in a 170 degree with new gasket. At idle after letting it run for about 30 min or so with the heater on high it idled at 186. Took it down the road for an hour or so ride cruising down the highway and back roads and temps were around 194-197, with the A/C off (working on getting that working ASAP). Low side hitting 190/192 and high side hitting 199. I am much happier with these readings now.....also, running conventional green. Mainly because I didn’t feel like flushing to run the pink/red coolant. Hopefully the temps will remain the same once I get my A/C fixed

Would this explain why my air/fuel ratio goes to something like 17.8:1 or so when I am coasting in gear but never any other time?

Yup, should go to the max of whatever your AFR is capable of reading because there is effectively no fuel and only air at that point haha

That's what I figured. It was that or there is a serious problem. I logically (and comfortably) decided it was the former :p

Can confirm...my AFR gauge goes past its max point (high 17s) and just goes "----" when I let off the throttle, then goes back to ~14.7 until I give it has again.

I have a lot of white smoke coming out of my exhaust on my 5-lug. A lot at first, and then it thins out while the truck is idling. I don’t have a compression tester on me - think it might be a head gasket leak?

I thought a bad head gasket put out blue smoke? Maybe I'm mixing that up with something else. How's your coolant level and what's it look like?

No, bad head gasket can be white smoke or a nice oil coolant cocktail, sometimes it's just pressurized coolant too, many failure modes but blue smoke is not one. Blue smoke indicates oil burning, maybe from poor rings or valve stem seals.

I am seeing very similar temps. Which non-OEM brand 170* t-stat did you go with?
