I hope so. Means the crank is very likely the same between the two, and that just the rods and pistons were changed .

And the answer is... 21.15mm according to the shitty calipers I have at home. So that's a no go. Btw the bearing surface is approx. 17.6mm.

Purely from a fitment standpoint you could shave 2.5 off each side. If it's just at the bearing surface I dont think you'd see much less in strength. Just dont shave the rest of the rod.

Also, no H-beams. Cross beams :transformer:

Head is getting the full upgrade as well..

Aaahh, ok- that explains why the wear looks like there was 4~5mm to work with

Yeah there is an undercut on the sides. Likely makes sure the bearing is on the journal and not caught on the edge and would allow oil to move around there.

@MrCrowntown hopefully they make some progress for ya soon.

Got my parts from Yotashop yesterday. I asked them to draw their favorite cartoon character on the box.

I think they need art lessons but I appreciate the effort.

Taped up the block and went at it with a die grinder and some sanding and scotch brite pads. Finished with carb cleaner to pull any oils off.
    20180506_182528.jpg

    Then primer and paint.

    Getting somewhere!

I am going to enjoy the painting process.

    Looks great!

Curious about the block plugs though. They don't look like they are all the way seated, and one of them looks like its in crooked?

That's because they are exactly that. Look at the un-taped pics. I have nice new brass plugs to put in.

Its vht engine enamel. I used the cast iron and it looks way better then expected. I think I'm going to do the aluminum in it as well. Maybe do the head black though. Not sure.

Let me know how that works on aluminum kf your trying soon. I haven't done any prep on that yet. I want to tackle the head some this week although the temptation to start assembling the bottom end is high.

I've been thinking I might replace my main bolts and rod bolts too though. I didn't order them as I'm not sure if the old ones would be fine, but thinking I might just to be safe.

For the block I'm uses sodium carbonate and electrolysis.
For the head I'm hot tanking with Simple Green Pro HD (aluminum safe).
DON'T use regular Simple Green on aluminum- highly corrosive and also a catalyst for Hydrogen Embrittlement

We're getting one of these at work soon, I can't wait!
