The Drifter - Specs and FAQ

I can't imagine stealth camping being a good idea w/o AC in some spots where it doesn't dip below 80 degrees at night.

Might want to look into a compressor based cooling pad or something instead. Like you could run water tubes to a fridge.

 

We’re working with a quality American made window manufacturer and we found a great sized windoor/ flip up side window for our application. It is not offered with a slider, but we are looking into it.

The standard cab window drops down to offer quite a bit of ventilation when stealth camping.



And it offers the obvious security.

The slider window is also an option, and that drops down as well.

The ceiling fan, cracked slightly and turned on low, and the cab window open is a good combo for stealth camping. It worked well in my 4wc and V1. I didn’t actually stealth camp in my V1, but went on a few trips with it before the tent was made and installed.

With a popup camper, that doesn’t use any area outside the vehicle’s footprint, you might be surprised where you can camp with the top up. I used Gaia to locate seldom traveled dirt roads off the highway, late at night, and just setup. Broke down the tent early in the morning and never had anything out of the camper. I just make sure that it was on public land. So much better than a Walmart parking lot.

Here’s a spot about 15 miles or so from Vegas on my way back from Utah. About 5 miles off I-15. Not really a campsite, but secluded enough. BLM land. No fire, no chair just 6 hours of sleep (4am to 10am) before getting back on the road. So much easier with the Drifter though

Unexpected benefit of the Drifter...being able to haul full 97 inch 80/20 lengths up top.

Dog gets super triggered if I pass it through the cab.

Is this the driver side solid flip-up option or is it a separate option?

 

This is a separate option, the sides come with glass or solid. @tacomgee is our guinea pig and the side turned out great! Unfortunately it’s a very expensive option.

 

Something I haven't seen talked about is how clean you can make the wiring.

The intire inside has hidden channels for wiring that can run around the inside of the camper and down into the pocket pictured. They make a bracket that bolts into that pocket that will have cut outs for switches so you could wire up the camper and have all of the wires clean and hidden yet still easily accessible. Totally ingenious.

I obviously don't have the bracket so my wiring is pretty ugly.

Yes! Thanks for noticing. We made the camper to wired easily from the very beginning. The channel runs the entire perimeter and not only adds strength, but hides cabling and allows you to drop then at any corner. The cover plates will offer up many options, like an spod or switch pro for complex systems, propex heater control and thermostat, and basic options like standard switches and dimmers. We also have these special flat mount zip ties to keep everything looking tidy from the outside as well.

Currently raining in VA so "stuck" inside my Drifter getting some work done on the laptop. As someone who's spent a ton of time in a RTT it's a very liberating feeling to be able to stand up in your tent or be able to sit down and work on a computer.

 

As someone who just loves seeing more of the Drifter, I hope you post more - and often ☺️
