I’d gladly still run 1.03 over the stock tune and not complain. Improvements take time and iterations, that’s how development is done.

    i know.

however, though the ovtune was a substantial change for the better in driveability, i have never worked with a tuner as slow to respond to folks as ovtune. emails take weeks to respond to and usually get a vague reponse or are completely ignored. and let's not even talk about the missed deadlines. deadlines ovtune he himself made, then go flying by with no remarks or bearing they were even made. i think that's what rubs me wrong the most. (i have an email from Matt stating MT updates back in March) 2 months and now he's going to be out of the country til July? Seriously?

i've worked with top tuners on multiple platforms and for street cars, driveability is number 1, not just more power or aggressive throttle. to me, the ovtune is a trade off in driveability. too many, oh well it's better than stock comments. that's not the point. ovtune is getting by with medicority and everyone here is accepting it because he's the only option. if there was competition, that would not be the case. and that makes me sad and frustrated.

in any other tuning platform community, response times and lack of polish on the tune would not be accepted. along with making the community be the guinea pig/beta testers for the tunes.

    /end rant

Sure I agree but we shouldn't have to keep reaching for the carrot. If I were in Matt's shoes I would say that I was working on an update but never give the expectation that it would be be done on a certain date. It's just setting yourself up for a fail.

And what other choice do we have?

I disagree with most of this. Sure communication could be better but it takes time to scale and streamline things. We are seeing progress, it’s not going to be perfect from day 1.

A lot of us have volunteered to test and provide feedback. That’s not for everyone and no one is being forced to test anything.

Have you worked with other tuners on other platforms besides OVtune?

Vote with your pocket book. There's always a choice. If ovtune was to see sales stop, and folks actually express displeasure with the product, maybe something would change.

again, too many of you are just accepting this mediocrity simply because he's the only option.

I have, when I was in the mazdaspeed community. One particular tuner was truly awful when it came to customer service, ignored messages and took weeks to get back to customers but on facebook he would publicly deny it and naturally that made people love and defend him, because since he's popular he can't be wrong..... but he was so good at tuning that people let him get away with it all. That being said, there were a ton of other tuners to pick from too so...it wasn't a monopoly on the platform

you appear to have come here just to try and stir shit up. If you have an issue, contact Matt, get a refund and enjoy the stock slushbox

I don't think @commbubba19 is just trying to stir things up, I think he's genuinely irritated. He's been here since January. He got the tune for his '18 back in March, so it would seem that he's stuck with 1.03C for the moment, which we all (except @mZiggy) know is a less than ideal tune.

I think the primary issue here is the consistently missed deadlines. If Mat hadn't announced the update, I don't think anyone would be complaining. Of course, this thread would be a lot less entertaining too.

As someone who isn't necessarily directly affected by the continued delays and whatnot, I can still appreciate what @Comb and @commbubba19 are talking about. Personally I ignore it because it doesn't directly affect me I think, and I don't want to be the guy that stirs up shit in the forum and makes it appear that the tune is a waste of time/patience, because it's absolutely not (to me), but I won't lie and say that it's easy to ignore what I've been observing. Maybe I'm just playing the middle ground here but I don't think Mr Bubba should be attacked for voicing his very real concerns

I've had the tune since I got my truck. Unfortunately it was right when 1.03c was released for the manual so i had no other reference point.

i've had only this tune and no, is not ideal (hence things to fix). Since then, i've moved on to an auto as for daily driving 2 hours in rush hour the manual was killing me (nothing a tune would fix so it's not relevant here).

I now own a 17 auto. Honestly, the auto isn't bad. It's not the tune that's the issue, it's the huge gap in gearing from 4th to 5th that makes the factory tune do what it's doing.

Please note, i have an 18 highlander that drives exactly the same way as the auto tacoma. however, it has 8 gears that are spaced far better. So i get what everyone is upset about with the auto jumping to 4th.

however, i now am using the ovtune for the 17 auto (1.04 91) and have issues with it. one big one is surging that people are saying is normal (is not) and that 1.04 was supposed to resolve.

Tuning issues are expected and normal. It happens and all vehicles inherintly are different. My issue is again the tune turn around time and lack of communication and false deadlines promises. That's my issue and should be yours.

Oh, I didn't realize you traded in for an auto. In that case, GTFO.

I kid, I kid. I think if you had the option of plain vanilla 1.03 for the '18 manual, you would have been happier with the tune (doesn't change your reason for switching to the auto, I know).

    :D

i forget which thread but someone asked me why i traded and i went on my rant on the manual. we're all different and we all like things a certain way which is why we all buy different vehicles. i drove manuals since i was 16. Honestly, the one in this truck is horrendous. for those that just want control and a manual, yes, it's great. but i was looking for a bit more from the driving experience which was just left with frustration and lacking.

yes, i'm much happier with my auto. fits my needs and lifestyle better. i won't be bugging you guys as this is for the manuals but i kept seeing the updates and that still, after months, no update makes me feel bad. especially when the auto guys got their's due to the manual guy's hard work.

I'm also considering if i even need the ovtune for my truck. i'm bouncing around the idea of loading back the oem tune and just driving it and seeing how it 'learns' and if i'm ok with it. if i am, i'll put the dongle/kit up for sale.

    good luck to you guys.

From what I've been reading, your surging is from a cold start and immediately putting it into gear (D or R). Does it do it stock? Have you logged it to see what the cause is?

I understand there is an issue, but without data, it is difficult to even assist with resolving the issue.

I agree with some of what you said, as to a choice, your a dead wrong, at least in the present. To my knowledge, there is no other option for tunning these trucks.

I think he meant you could choose not to tune it. While that is a choice, it's a bad one.
