Building the "BEAST"

Is this going to be it's 3rd case? So it will go Stock then Marlin then FJ or are you taking one out?

Nope. Just dual case's. It'll have the transmission, Marlin crawler, then the FJ Case. I'm getting rid of the stock Taco case. The FJ case is much stronger.

 

Oh cool. I had no idea. I would have expected them to be the same case. Is the FJ case chainless?

 

They are very similar. They are both chain case's and have the same gearing and even use the same case The difference is in how they are shifted. The Taco case use's an electronic actuator and a single rod to shift it into 4-hi and 4-lo. Thus the weak points are both the actuator and the fact that a single rod is shifting both hi and lo gear sets.
With the FJ Cruiser case it is shifted manually with a lever by the driver and it has two shift rods to control 4 hi and 4-lo. No electronics to worry about getting dirty or wet and no need to worry about the case getting bound up between 4-hi and 4-lo.

Here is the Tacoma Case when we pulled it out to put the first crawler in it. Notice that there is a cover plate on the top of the case. That is where a shift lever would go if this was an FJ case. Also notice the big actuator at the back of the case. This is what shifts the case.


Here is the FJ case. Notice that it has a shifter base and no actuator at the back.



Also notice that on the face of the Taco case there are two small recessed area's next t each other. This is where the shift rods would be if it had them.


Now notice that the FJ Cruiser has these same holes however you can see the shift rods at the top.

 

It won't be soccer mom friendly anymore.

Haha.... At seven feet tall and the door ledge at 28" off the ground it was never soccer mom friendly.

It will have three sticks now, however we do have something in the works that will give it five.

 

Is this going to give you the power of front digs?
