aha, yea, the take off is a bit slower. You can regear but isn't really needed.

thn nitro-gear has 4.88's, its not cheap and you lose some top-end.

So if you want to stick with a 285 or a 33" the best gearing for that size is 4.56. Once you step up to a 35" you want to go with 4.88's.

I'm happy with 4.88 gears and 285/75/16 tires...

We run Nitro 4.88s with the same size KO2, and I LOVE driving the truck. It holds overdrive on the highway (the auto trans doesn't hunt for gears the way it did stock) yet our fuel economy is still completely acceptable (generally 15 to 18 mpg, depending on conditions). She can launch hard from a stop when you make her, too.

I've said it before, I'll say it again; it makes NO difference how you 'think' your truck feels with bigger tires and stock gears. The fact remains that you're under-geared vs stock, which makes the engine and trans work much harder and is not optimal for a number of reasons. Most people will justify staying with stock gears based on cost, which is certainly understandable, but regearing is the right thing to do when increasing tire size.

Your simple math, while correct, has no basis in the real world. One, the auto trans has two overdrives (making cruising RPM acceptable with the 4.88s), and two, I don't know about you, but I don't drive much over 90 mph at at any given time; any top end I lose was never used in the first place.

math doest apply in the real world.....I'm sure theoretical physicist's will be pleased to hear that their primary tool doesn't work with their field of study.

I have 4.30's...it's basically like being stock again. It isn't over-geared like 4.88's would be.

We're discussing theoretical physics, or the real-world application of increased gearing with bigger tires? Your reply is senseless.

And how many people love how these trucks drive, stock? Believe me when I say that a little big of over-gearing makes this truck a real joy to drive.

Thanks subculture, so I have a question for you I daily drive this and the rig is chipped. Which fixed my gear finding at highway speeds. I'm just wanting something a little more comfortable for daily driving, some off-roading and trailering. Will the nitro 4.88's be sufficient for all of this?

I'd be willing to bet you'd have a pretty big smile on your face most of the time with the OV Tune and 4.88s. Once my wife and I are past this summer of 'wheeling trips, I plan to do the OV Tune as well, and am quite excited about it.

The truck is my wife's DD, by the way. She has a 110 mile round trip commute three times per week. On Houston freeways, with some surface streets thrown in, she can see upwards of 20 mpg.

Mine drives fine, no issues. How people feel about the drive-ability of these trucks is subjective, there is no correct answer.

My commute is 40mi each way and 90% highway with speeds of 75-80mph...4.88's would have killed my mpgs. 4.30's are the sweet spot, for me, with 33's and the AT.
