Not looking for excuses, just people with experience. I'm pleased to hear, and a little surprised that the difference is minimal. I was absolutely comfortable towing the camper. It was only 30 miles home from the dealer. It was highway speeds, but no gear in the truck or the camper. I am doing a 1200 mile round trip end of July and want to bring the kayaks. Ill try a shorter trip first. Thanks again for the input.

Kayaks will be the least of your drag issues when pulling a trailer, even a small one like that.

Yeah I guess I did. I thought you were asking if the wind resistance and turbulence from the kayaks will cause issues.

When I said "drag" above I meant wind resistance. Rewritten...

"Kayaks will be the least of your wind resistance issues when pulling a trailer, even a small one like that (which will still produce a ton of drag, wind resistance)."

For what it's worth, this trailer (empty) produces so much drag that I can't even maintain normal highway speeds. That mesh gate in the rear is like a sail and completely drags the truck down. If anything, adding kayaks to your scenario will force the wind up and into the roof of the trailer, reducing drag. In a similar way, adding that mower in the picture below, reduces drag enough to make it possible to maintain 70 without the constant loss of speed, downshift to 3rd, shifting back to 4th, losing speed, etc... cycle that I go through with the trailer empty.

Thanks, that is the info I'm looking for. I am aware of and understand how my camper impacts driving. I have been trying to envision my truck in a wind tunnel with the yaks and camper. What you describe makes sense, thanks.

That's a good sized boat, what's it weigh and how's it tow?

Going to look at this today. 20' Crownline with a 5.0L Mercruiser. Should be interesting to see how it tows if I get it. Mostly flat land here so I'm not worried about it.

Tows fine. I dont have to tow it too far. I just leave it in 4th. Its 22ft 4600lbs plus trailer and Gas. I wouldnt want to be doing too many hills or long distance though.

Its a double axle trailer also

    Boat.

I cheat, though, and don't use a Tacoma. Truck doesn't even know it's there.

I hate it lol, pull anything with my truck, and I’m on high alert all the time, pick up speed for hills, plan way ahead for braking, watch for load bounding bumps..hop in my dads new f-150 and I can pull the same load and do 75 at like, 2300 rpms and literally forget about it. Guess I’m *safer* in my truck since I’m so much more attentive ha

I still pick up speed for hills, but mostly because I do that anyway for better fuel economy.
With a load this light, I can even tow in 6th without any noticeable rise in my transmission temps, but it does tend to kick down into 5th earlier on a hill because it's in tow/haul.
