What temp does your 4.0 run at?

Driving from Toyota Jamboree in Gilmer to Lubbock yesterday, it reached 201°........it was hot, like 92 or 93 outside amd the terrain was mostly uphill.
It would quickly go down though.

My guess is that a bunch of factors went into the temp getting that high.
Front and rear metal bumpers, full steel skids underneath, winch, 33" tires, 400lbs in bed and average speed of 75-80 for 7 hours.

With my previous head gasket issues, the temp never went down thks quickyl. If I back off of gass temp drops almost instantly to 188-190.

My city temps are fine, around 185-188.

 

Man that’s really low. Even operating temp on a 70 degree day in never reading below 185.

 

I guess all those factors play a part aswell. I run a leer topper, sos slider. 33’s with a king lift and my hottest is 156.8 on hill doing about 75. It goes down to about 192.2 once I left off and stay around there afterwards.

 

it was 90° Out today. I’m curious if it has to do with the high humidity around here. Or maybe i just have an efficient cooling system? lol. i only have 47,xxx mi on my truck. I’ve been thinking about upgrading the cooling system but seeing as i’m doing OK relative to you guys lol looks like i’m saving money.

Basically. 2015 TRD-OR 4X4, 265/75/16. It has towing package, maybe tranny cooler pre-cools radiator?

I’m actually surprised it does so well in the Houston heat.

 

Mine does so much better when i'm back home. I live in the Beaumont area. When I come up to Lubbock, it runs alot hotter.
I wouldn't be surprised if the excess humidity does something to keep temps down.

 

You gunna order that upgraded aluminum radiator from the other thread?

 

Any idea why engine throws CEL when temps get that low?

Did two runs from Spring to Clear Lake (45mi) for mother’s day weekend. I took hardy to beltway 8 pushing 85-90mph majority of the way. Engine Temperatures never exceeded 197° Outside temperatures in mid 90s

Average mpg was 15

 

Uff I wish I could go that fast haha. I’m on Kings with slider and 33’s and max I’ll do is 80mph. No way bar makes it sketchier haha. I’ve seen 196.8 once or twice only for a second or two.

 

Yeah I switched from BFG k02s to wrangler duratracs in c load and I can definitely feel the difference in my handling. I have a racing background so I’m probably a little too confident in what the current setup can do but I also try not to corner like I do in the 911 lol.

 

Hahah I hear you man I came from a 2014 STI and before that a 2007 s2000 so it’s a game changer for me to realize I can take a turn faster then 45mph. But I love it.

 

I didn't read all the posts, so apologies if stating this again. If you are using the cluster gauge to assess engine temps, that is not a good indicator. According to my Scangauge, the "dead center" of the engine temp gauge will be reached at around 170-175 degrees and I have not seen it go any higher when I've had engine temps at 206-208. Not sure when the gauge will actually start to move higher, but the center reading seems to be about 35-40 degrees wide at least. "Idiot gauge" at it's finest....
