    So...spare tire thoughts.

    Option 1
    IMG_2322.jpg IMG_2323.jpg

Probably get mounted on some sort of hinge so it can either be stood upright, or lifted up to load gear under the bedcage. Pretty decent storage.

    Option 2
    IMG_2324.jpg IMG_2325.jpg

Maximum storage space, but I would want to cut/ notch the bed to lower the tire into it, which I kinda don't want to. Plus I feel would kinda look weird as a sigle spare and not dual.

    Option 3
    IMG_2326.jpg

Could be mounted to swingout, but makes cooler/ camp gear more difficult to access.

Need to redo the tire gate since it was really designed before I thought I was going LT, and as sturdy as it is, it's still flimsy and sketchy with the full size spare out back. I know this means ditching the fold down feature of it, but that's the sketchiest part and I'll figure out another way to haul the bike.

I like the middle finger to the person following you look of the tire in the middle lol. How about a swing out version of #3?

Edit: see you already thought of that.

Thanks for the inputs. Sounds like I need to pull the tire back off and play around with how far back I can mount it in option 3 to maximize storage. Can't have it sticking out more than the current setup for rock crawling purposes since I've already drug it as is.

Aside from looks, id take into consideration how it'll be used. I have a feeling you'll want easy access to the cooler more then the spare. :D

Agreed, hence the need to pull the tire off and play with how far back I can mount it again. Try to get the cooler sideways for beer access. Ran out of light tonight

Could make a swing open tire gate.

Considering I already have the 1500lb spindle on my current setup, I'm definitely gonna reuse it for the new one. Just can't have the tire stick out so far like in your pic. It'll need to sit into the bed and then swing out

I heard the tire gates don’t work well with bedside glass?

My tiregate has made my bedsides crack, tear and seperate. Eventualy had to tie both corners to the bed rails to help reinforce everything back there.

Thanks for the pictures, I was afraid that would be a weak spot, now I can design around it...

My next truck I am going to do a dual swing out rear bumper vs the single I have now and I plan to do something like this. Cut a hole above the taillight big enough to pass a tube through and have an upper hinge w/ upper support structure behind the bedside that ties down to the frame...hope that makes sense ? I think this would take a ton of the flex out of the equation and if it only ties into the frame and bumper then there is zero stress on the bed.

Exactly. Was going to say just tie into the frame. The body isn’t strong enough for off road and heavy stuff.

I’m also never going to use a pivot like the shitty brass bushing one CBI uses...nuttin’ but servicable bearings or delrin bushings maybe ?

I was thinking poly would be too soft but the gate would be so much more solid with the upper pivot point added it prob wouldn't matter huh

Yeah delrin would be a safer bet. Never tried making a tire gate yet.

Yeah, I'm thinking something similar. Tied into the frame, and the bed rack.
