There’s people that walk on it and take samples and stuff they wear these crazy boots and silver suits. But yea the closest I ever got was maybe 20ft that’s just stupid close to not have a heat suit on.

 

I've got family in Kona as well. Been through HPP but not Waimea. That will change this next trip as 1/2 our stay will be just outside Honokaa. We will check out Waimea, Hawi and other parts of the north end.

I’m guilty of roasting marshmallows on lava and my family lives in Honokaa and I think that’s the most beautiful part of the big island. My family in kona have a huge ranch that does cattle and kona coffee. You will love it up in Honokaa that’s where I go to get my peace and quiet. I just won’t go during coffee season because I don’t drink it so I won’t pick it lol.

 

And when Japanese nationals go on vacation they leave common sense at home trust me I see them do dumbshit all the time. My wife is from japan and we go quite a bit back trust me they do not act like mindless common senseless crazy people back in japan.

 

We ventured up to Honokaa a few times the last trip. Absolutely our favorite part of the island. Our 10 year plan (when she can retire) is a place on the Hamakua coast, preferably in/around Honokaa. Love me some malasadas from Tex drive in and brisket sammies from Waipao Cookhouse. We want to take in a show or two at the People's theater as well.

I'm looking forward to grilling some island raised steaks this time. I understand the market in Honokaa has local beef so that will be happening. Probably often!

Yea, I know. Have seen them do some stupid stuff in Yellowstone. Stuff like taking a selfie with a bison. It's not limited to Japanese. The dumb shits can come from anywhere.
