So the failure was in two parts, the core stuck to the shift shaft cause the threading gave out at some point during the tightening, and once I turned past that (unbeknown to me), there was no reversing that threading. Then the knob seized to the core, which required the entire thing to have to be cut. The Cerakote on the threading looked beautiful even after the cutting, no failure on that end. Goes to show how strong Cerakote is!

Buyer Beware. I never heard back from OP after this so I sent him a PM, but he shifted the blame. When it's all said and done, he never sent instructions, nor relayed needs for anti seize and after my initial message to him that the knob seized, he sent me instruction installations and said "this is what I should have sent..." but only after the issue arose which was to late then. Will post up our PM conversation screen shots soon as he said he's okay with "Publicly brow beating" a customer. Dispute filed through paypal, hopefully can get this refunded but that won't even make up for the other associated costs of having this removed and damage to the shaft.

You refuse to send me a picture of the interior of the aluminum core. Cerakote is harder than your shift knob on your truck, and therefore instead of galling the aluminum, the hardness of the coating resulted in the galling of your shifter. Page 2 of this thread shows proper installation.

I didn't send the instructions, because I was unsure how the lubricants I was suggesting would hold up to your coating. You assured me that you were in good hands, and that i should not worry about Ryan Sagisi's work. The onus was on him to give you care instructions, as you coated 100% of the surfaces of the parts.

You then claimed to have not coated the interior of the core, and you will not send me a picture for proof. I told you that I would reimburse you if you provided this picture.

I can only assume that you coated the thread, considering we have this proof ... that you coated and blasted two of the three threads on the knob.

Aluminum could not possibly harm the induction hardened threads on your truck, which leads me to believe that you coated it, and now you look to be backpedaling.

Take responsibility for your modifications and error, for goodness sake.

 

This is why we can't have nice things, folks.

EDIT: Orangeracer tried to force his refund by opening a PayPal claim, and they ruled in my favor after viewing the evidence. I would rather not bump the thread with this, so please let it die here.

Thoughts on Stainless w/ delrin ring

 

There is one caveat with the delrin ring version. It is a new design, and I am unsure how well the connection will hold up.

Here is a rendering of it. There are three dowel pins that are holding it together via press fit. I sent one out last week, so hopefully that member can keep in touch to inform us about how it holds up.

 

As far as stainless, I still think it would be way too heavy. A delrin ring stainless hybrid, that just sounds exhausting. I really do have to draw the line somewhere.

Here is the first delrin knob. One of the hybrids (stainless core) I have been working on in the past few pages. Still needs a final profile skim, but that's about what it'll look like.

Living in the the oven (S AZ) makes me seriously consider the ramifications of putting on a steel or aluminum shift knob.

 

Ah heck with it, still haven't heard from the owner of this one ... so I'll just post some pics. Weight was 271g, so only 30g less than solid aluminum.

To preemptively answer a question, yes, the "knurl" engraving option will center on the black ring.

 

Here was my test fit of the sleeve, prior to turning the sphere. (aluminum part was finished first before I pinned it together to finish the delrin).

1/8"+ hardened dowel pins are .0003 press fit, and there are three of them 120 degrees apart. No slop at all, but under constant shifting that could change over time. I hope not, because I really like this one.
