"O” gasket throttle body mod worth the $$$ ??

I am needing to remove my throttle body to clean my IAC valve. Truck has a slightly rough idle and its due with 205k on the clock. I figured I might as well upgrade to the TRD "O" style throttle body gasket while I am at it. Its very tough to find them online(none on e-bay, Amazon, etc.) and the cheapest I could find was $33+ shipping. Local dealership wants $48.59 for one. So for the folks who have made the change. Was it worth the $40+ to change it and what did it do/yield?

    Thanks

I can't answer your question, but after reading your link, I doubt you'll get $33 of benefit out of it.

However, I'd certainly draw that circle out and cut the D one to make it into an O. That's free, and yes, it's miniscule, but it would be considered part of 'blueprinting'.

Gasket matching is probably a better name for what I describe doing, and is highly recommending in engine builds for things like intakes, exhausts, etc. It isn't one detail that helps much, but an accumulation of them.

Cut the D shape out like op said, I spent 7.00 for a factory gasket and used a dremel with flapper disc. This is worth 33.00 bucks if you don't have a dremel, its akin to having a bigger thottle body, it takes a few drive cycles for power to be noticed. Its much better than any 300.00 dollar intake or some b.s. Throttle body spacer. This does work w/o supercharging!

This is the standard shape gasket for the supercharged 3.4's, not sure what it would do if anything for an NA application but guess it couldn't hurt.

I doesn't hurt anything I concur, remember our trucks are made for boost and I have gained alot from blueprinting gaskets and oversizing throttle bodies it gives great torque. That being said for twenty min cutting the gasket perfect saves 26.00 and does the same as opening the throttle body more. Anyone interested in more power with this little trick could get more n/a power by a service from maxbore throttle bodies online, they install a new butterfly and bore the I.D. of the throttle body.

I got my throttle body back from maxbore but haven’t installed it yet, what improvement did you get from it being bored out?
    You supercharged?

I’ve bored every throttle body to all four toyota trucks I’ve had, and it seems as though every one has lower end gain. It’s seriously pulling hard compared, and I’ve been doing things here and there to make my n/a truck as fast as possible before boost. I was supercharged but sold it and will be buying another charger when I can build a manual transmission, because my auto transmission hunted gears constantly even brand new. Ive been eyeballing your setup and you are smart having that charger on a manual. I race streetbikes at Willow Springs and it’s my fix for speed until I can redo my setup properly. I just don’t want to mess with the valve body in my automotive transmission, so I’ll wait until the trans swap. You are of a rare 1% breed that knows power as I see you’ve ported the shit out of your charger, you can also have the rotors revained for more boost aswell. I like the snow meth kit you use and I am gonna fab a port through the seventh injector (slick like) so they can’t see it at test only smogs in Comifornia. Long story short porting the tb is a must to squeeze out every hidden bit of power, also I love my JBA headers they helped alot even n/a, Toyota left alot of hp on the table, I almost bought LCE’s 500 crank hp n/a 3.4 (one of a kind engine), but it wouldn’t have passed smog because it needed a stand-alone ecu. Gadget was at 500 hp with a boosted 5VZFE. I’ve seen it all since they came out with our 3.4, but I’m impressed that you are one of the faster trucks on here. Seems new 1st gen members are younger and don’t have as much knowledge and respect or money to do what we try to accomplish.

    Thanks for the thumbs up,

I got the bored TB on today, so it will take a little driving till the ECU is relearned.

Headers I would like to do, but from what I have read they are a huge hassle to install
    and others tend to leak.

I have the EGR system and there is barely enough room as it is for the dam EGR pipe, hoses
and valve as it is on the drivers side. So because this is a daily driver I haven’t gone down that road.

One thing about with these mods is they all add up to a nice power performance at the end of the Dayton.
Wish there was an easy ECU upgrade tho

I am nowhere a mechanical whiz like the 2 of U seem to be but I do have the need for speed sometimes (but not in heavy traffic!), I miss the long ago days in Germany on the autobahn where I did not have to worry about the polizei outside of city limits, just haul it down when I saw ///// in the 4cyl rental car at 130mph maxed out and get passed by an Audi A8 full of youngsters on their way to football "soccer" like I was standing still on the road, totally blew my mind
my yota story is short, 3 vehicles over 7yrs, all 4cyl then I test drive the 3.4 and Holy Moly that got a lot of power, where can I trade in my 4cyl single cab for this beast :D
and now I am reading I can have even more power!? ... seems like a lot of additional mods so i dunno, my little truck is pretty darn basic stock except for new exhaust
i remember the radio spots for the all-new Tacoma in the mid-90s touting the v6 having more power than any comparable chevy or ford in its class, you guys remember those ads?

Yup I remember that and that’s why I bought my tacoma back in 1997, at the time is was the most powerful midsized truck and then I put the supercharger on. :)
It was in its own league back then.
Even now with all the mods I have done as a daily driver there’s very few trucks that can do better
with the power to weight ratio then what I’m running. For a daily driver it’s what I want and it’s not a race car, just a fun truck with some extra power

any clue as to exactly what the 'safe' top end speed is (with or without supercharger)?
I think it was back in 2oo4 when I had to test the top speed and it was able to get to about 105mph on a deserted Iowa interstate (I had previously checked the road for any abnormal pavement problem before I tested it) then it seemed to not want to go any faster (computer limiting device??) I think the rpms were only at 4.5? but I don't recall
since they overhauled I-80 between here and Lincoln to 50 miles of 3 lanes traffic moves fast. This truck at its age still handles like-new at nearly 90mph

The speed limiter is 105 mph, you don’t really want to go above that anyways
as these trucks are a flying brick and tall :) but yes you can hit that mark easily if one wanted to with
plenty of rpms left on a track.

Didn’t know the rotors can be “also have the rotors revained for more boost aswell”

Who does that type of work on our old superchargers?
    What increase is there?

I’ll dig up the links and put them out there, its very old school and does improve power. I haven’t heard of anybody doing this for years but it’s out there just like porting the charger too. You might be able to add this to your setup with the meth injection w/o extra fuel if elevation is high enough.

Cough, ehem, 110 pegged for 1&1/2 hrs in a 3.4 to arrive only ten minutes late to vegas in a hurry from California. Made me want the speed unregulator made by URD, these trucks could easily do up to 150 n/a with a few good mods. Nobody was around, and it was very early 4am. You can feel the governer stopping the speed as it wants to go past 110, it tries to pull past that but you need that URD device to go Ricky Bobby. Rpms were 4-5 like stated. As for safe top speed lol, I can’t say safe, as the truck is lifted but what’s gonna happen?, a long roll, or dirt nap for life, I wouldn’t bother anymore or do something to hurt innocent people. (This happened in a dream) lmfao.

sounds like a fun trip lol! 150 is sorta what I was thinking after maxing a 4cyl VW at 125~130
I suppose I should have also included 'safe' top speed before potential engine damage, I don't know if there are safeguards against red lining in 4th gear (I never have beat it that far in lower gears, i try not to push it over 3 until 5th gear)
