OR to TRD Pro Fox shocks impressions

This just seems very very odd to me. Would have not imagined that.

 

That has a lot to do with the tires too. The factory Goodyear’s have super soft sidewalls. My truck felt a lot more stable after going to real LT tires.

Worlds of difference between the stock tire and my Wildpeaks. The truck handles much better. Only lost 1% of “plushness” and gained 99% handling department.

I have both,Billstein Pro kit on my 2015,and Fox on my 2017 Pro,and too me neither is better than the other with the same tires,both feel the same too me.

 

Which one do you like better and why?

 

My 17 seems too be a little smoother on paved roads than my 15,but my 15 handles a little better on washboard roads for some reason,don't know why,given a choice between the 2, I still too this day prefer my 15,not because of the suspension,but because of the problems I have had with the 17.Pro Tacomas are very nice look wise,but you can get a better setup by buying an offroad and upgrading it.The differance in the 2 suspensions though is very slight,so either one is a good choice.

 

I have a 17 SR5 my wife hates driving the truck. She said its rough riding. Is there any shocks that will make it feel like our 13 highlander? I know its a truck....but just wishful thinking.

 

Anything would be an improvement. I test drove one of those SR5s, stock suspension was ass.

I may have overstated my feelings in my OP. You can definitely feel the tires when you switch but two weeks out and I barely notice them.

Ultimately if they made the wheels I wanted in 17 I’d have gone Load C since I don’t need E. I didn’t get the huge MPG drop some people report though.

 

I gotcha. Well I can tell a difference in the 285 55 20s in D load on the '13 and the C loads on the '17. The '17 rides like a Cadillac comparatively but the sidewall is taller which may play a part. E loads do ride a bit harsh, but they are a tougher tire.

 

I swapped my OR suspension for the Fox Pro as well and really like it... except that I can't alternate the brake and gas anymore at stop lights and induce the Taco OR Mechanical Bull motion...

 

I kinda figured they would feel almost the same...or really the slightest of different in everyday driving.

They maybe branded differently, but in the end TRD is the ones who are tuning them for the trucks.

lol I got weird looks when I 1st did this with the new truck at the light. Guy thought I wanted to race him. So I said I’m game, then he smoked me (maybe I I shouldn’t have tried to race a 2017 supercharged corvette)!

My answer was really marketing and branding. The Raptor has em, so should we.

 

I just switched from the TRD OR Bilstein shocks to the TRD Pro Fox shocks, and I really can't tell much difference. However, I have a longbed, and I added small front & rear blocks when I swapped in the Fox setup, sooo

 

I think this work like any corporate jobs Toyota put on a spec and open for bidding. FOX was able to cut Bilstein price therefore they got the job.

It's absolutely about marketing and also differentiating the Pro trimline from the Sport and Off Road. The average customer would see Bilstein's on all three trimlimes and have trouble justifying the higher price tag on the Pro.
