    Hi all

Looking into replacing my current dash cam for a blackvue.
This require an internet connection for the cloud features to work.
So wondering if you guys are using a hotspot in your trucks?
And how do you like them, what’s the expense and performance like?

    Thanks.

I had a Verizon hotspot for work. It was alright.

Could you tether your phone maybe to save a few bucks?

I do use my phones coneecrion when I’m in the truck. But with the blackvue I could get a live feed when I’m not in it.
Or if the camera detects an event. Like getting hit. It would send me a message for me to check it out from my phone.

Got it. A standalone hotspot is definitely needed.

You could probably get one added to your phone plan for pretty cheap if you go with your existing carrier.

I’ll be checking on that. But was wondering what people here might be using. Because the one I found is 300 bucks.. seems a little steep for what it is.

I would imagine it uses a ton of data by constantly uploading footage to the cloud.

Supposedly it does pretty good with the data. Since it doesn’t upload all the time.
It mainly backs up events, like a crash for example.

I guess not many people take advantage of the cloud service on this cams..

Just in case someone else is looking for the same as I am.. this is what I’m going with.. until AT&T gets theirs back..

I have a Verizon hotspot for the mother-in-law to use for home internet usage. It's a brand new model that has an always on setting and is on the account as unlimited data instead of the 15 GB per month "hotspot" allowance

I've got this one from freedompop and I like it a lot. For $10 activation fee they send you the mobile hotspot for free and you get 500mb free per month. I've got free hotspots in two vehicles. It seems like there is a catch but there isn't.
