Good how-to advice here, but remember this is classic “keeping up with the Joneses” bullshit, so don’t fall for it.

For me - patience, learning, and planning have been key. It's perfectly OK to learn from other people's mistakes rather than to make them all myself.

For example, I learned early on that for the kind of driving I like to do, that a lift was certainly in order. At the time though, I was completely clueless on lifts - so I learned.

Spacer lift? Nuh-uh. Upgraded coils and Bilsteins? Nuh-uh. Modified Icon Stage III? THERE we go!

To get from there to here though took a lot of reading, talking to friends who do the same kind of driving, and talking to some professional shops on the phone as king for advice.

I ended sending up a fair amount over my initial budget ($3K-ish as opposed to $1.5K-ish), but I am SO happy with my current setup!

Far from it, but a good wage is three times your monthly spending??? That's what the "experts" on the radio say.

The saying isn't really meant for you. Its meant for the 23 year old talking about owning three vehicles. Then backpedals, talks about how he was able to sell two for a profit. He got lucky if he's even being truthful to begin with.
Sounds like your aware vehicles arn't investments at all, rather depreciating assets made to solve the get from point a to point b problem but I doubt your owning three trucks to begin with lol.

You don't have to make good money to be able to do this stuff, you just have to be good with the money you make.

My peers in the 50+ forum would totally shit if they knew what my base pay was, I'm sure it's quite a bit lower than most of those folks.

Don't get fooled into thinking you have to get Kings or ADS suspension etc. Lots of people just recommend that because it's "the best" and they have nothing else to offer.

There are dozens of suspension threads that start with "what's a good suspension option, my budget is 1k" and at least half the responses are "go with Kings"

Why do you need to drop thousands on suspension if you aren't doing the type of off roading that benefits from that?

That being said....don't lump Icon in with King :p
