Because if you ever NEED credit, you'd have an excellent score. I've had people at dealerships say oh this is the best rate we can get, then they run our credit and it comes back even lower interest. So if you need to do that at some point, it will help.

Yup, you don't even need to spend a ton on them, just consistent usage and payment of it.

I pay all of my utilities, rent, and insurance to my CC. It's pretty nice.

I do all of that but rent. Rent would be a waste of money at this point for me.

There's a reason I'm trying to save for a house. Pissing money away is my least favorite activity if it gets me near zero return. I'd love to at least be turning that into equity, but hot damn is it hard for a single guy to come up with 50-60 Gs.

EDIT: or are you living in the barracks? Saw the PFC tag.

If your living to impress others your entire life your going to live a miserable existence. Build your truck how you want to, who gives a shit if others like it, its your truck. Not everyone can afford it all right now, I remember building cars when I was younger and it took me a year sometimes to save up for one part. Just how it goes sometimes.

You dont know how all those other guys built their trucks either. Maybe they have tons of disposable income and maybe they spent their kis college fund on a pickup truck, or maxed out all their credit cards. You just dont know. Do what makes you happy and enjoy others cool trucks when the pics pop up

Why do you need 50-60 Gs to buy a house? I bought mine with about $4500 out of pocket.

I don't have any PFC tag so must be someone else. It is tough to get the down payment. Another option is FHA loan if you have family that can help. But at least in my area, housing prices are nuts so I understand. We bought at the low end, have over $100K in equity now because the market has exploded. It's ridiculous now. We had really good timing which can't always happen. Used an FHA loan to get some of the down payment and was able to keep our townhome without selling it. It's now rented out and paying itself off, and we payed back what we borrowed for the FHA loan.

Depends where you live. $60K is 20% on a $300K house and around here it's really hard to find anything under $300K.

You can do less down, but then you pay mortgage insurance.

    @firejims

    1. Search for every good deal you can find. Some vendors give TW discounts, sometimes a friend is selling their lightly used stuff for a good price, holiday sales, etc

    2. Friends. I am lucky to know people who own fab shops that can help make something on the cheap, or just help with simple stuff like installing a lift. Maybe you can borrow a torque wrench instead of buying one.

    3. Time. Sometimes you gotta wait. I got a good deal on my rear kings, and then scooped some front coilovers before the price went up. But now they are sitting in my apartment for a few months until I can come up with the cash for springs, ucs, etc. It hurts a little, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

    Morning and welcome!

What is a decent wage #1?
    Where do you live?
    Do you own or rent?
    Married with kids or single?
Drugs and alcohol use or sober?
    Debt with shit credit score.

All these can be factors into answering your question so you will not get the what you are looking for without providing a little info i would think.

I can't afford much but I get things here and there. With a truck payment, rent, daycare, insurance on 3 vehicles and other things not to mention living in Cali where gas is just crazy among other things as well, yes its hard.

Good luck Adrian and remembers 1 importiant thing.

Yeah, an FHA loan is something I've been looking at. SLC housing prices are going up at a ridiculous rate right now, so trying to figure out something sooner rather than later.

Dude you don't have to. First time homeowner programs are legit. Coming out of school I think I only put down like $7k on my house? (Yes you pick up PMI [Mortgage insurance] but its still way more logical than renting. Then refinance that hoe to a 15 year mortgage.

FWIW, I would totally recommend Quicken Loans.

    This.

I put $16K down on my house. Pointless IMO to drop that much coin unless it comes from the sale of a prior home.

I would rather have $60K in the bank and PMI than $3k in the bank and no PMI if the shit hits the fan and I loose my job/get hurt etc. You need some kind of big buffer if you are going to own a home. Last house we bought the furnace went out in winter 2 months after buying the house. $10K to replace that......would have been fucked if I put all my savings down.

Also I live in North Seattle so I dont want to hear about high housing prices LOL

We bought our place in 2012 for $212K. I could sell it today for $365K. It's stupid.

But then you get hosed on PMI and a worse interest rate with an FHA/VA/USDA what ever loan you have when you put that little down.

It adds up to a lot a month you fork out for not having 20%+

Money you can’t spend on mods...

Everyone should fight for 20%+ down on a home and do 15yr fixed loans (it costs less per month to do a 15 yr loan vs 30 than PMI costs on a non-conventional loan).
If one can’t make that happen then fight to get that equity down and refinance once you have it.

I could not afford the house payment on a non-conventional loan. It would be about $400 more per month to do an FHA on an example $170k house with 5% down and PMI vs Conventional. It would make the house payment over 50% more.
No way. I guess if you have endless income who cares but I’d rather spend $400/mo on my truck lol

One thing to be Tacoma poor another to be house poor ;)
