They are not quite the same seat but they sit on the same bracket so it's a direct swap over, most folks say the 3rd Gen 4Runner seats are better than the 1st gen Taco buckets. The 96-02 4Runner seats could be had with manually adjustable lumbar and seat bottom angle/height. A feature I sorely miss in my 2nd Gen Taco.

Granted it has manual lumbar, and is a MUCH more comfortable seat overall, but being I drive stick I miss the seat hight adjustment. I like the lip of the seat to be a good bit higher than the tail. Helps keep your ass against the back. I have a tendency to slouch and melt towards the floor if there isn't sufficient rearward slope in a chair.

That said I do not have the seats from the 01, they were thoroughly trashed but then again I bought the 01 for its body.

...and then bought my 2010 Tacoma...

Having said that, my T4R seats are very comfortable. Drove it 17 hours to N.VA and had no complaints other than the position of the console top armrest sucks balls for short people (slightly less than 5'6), which is why I like the armrest in the Taco better.

 

2001-2004 Tacoma rear bumper. New never installed. Wrong year purchased, needed 2nd gen.
Will trade for 2005-2015 bumper or roof rack for same year model.

They came off my son's 2012. I swapped tires and rims with him when I put my new ones on because they were basically brand new and his were a bit old. They don't have the sensors. Make me an offer if you want to make the trip.
