Agreed. I think there must be something else going on. Either a sensor malfunction with the reading of AFR, or a sensor used in the fuel delivery. Something is off.

My UCON decided to give me AFRs in the low to mid 10s on boost this morning. Yay....

more info please? what were they before, and did this just happen all of a sudden, and ever since? or gradual? random?

Everytime I am almost decided to buy a Ucon, something turns me away. And everytime I feel like I am just going to do the trd flash, something turns me off there too.

Like what? The only negative thing I know a TRD reflash might cause would be rich AFRs at WOT. Which can easily be compensated for with a smaller pulley.

differing opinions on the TRD tune with certain mods. I have a 2.8 and 2.5 pulley on the shelf. FPR mod or not? When do the injectors run out of headroom? What about headers, larger throttle body, different intake? different elevations seem to have a huge effect, even though I don't see how the small differences in oxygen or air pressure across 5K feet elevation would cause multiple points of AFR swing...

Tough to tell what will happen on the TRD tune. It is fixed and meant for a stock engine setup.

But Ucon is seeming to have its own issues for several folks. And when do you need to have larger injectors? Is it worth it to have a Ucon when doing headers and no cats as opposed to O2 sim?

I think honestly it is a question of how far down the rabbit hole do I wanna go. I don't have the headers yet. Maybe I should leave well enough alone, stick with the 2.8. I was pulled into the idea that the pulley guy was telling, of the 2.5 working great in every way on the TRD tune, just bolt it on. Maybe that isn't true.

Haven't got the whole plan finalized in my head yet.... hence the back and forth, and everytime I swing one way, I get brought back to the center.

But would a smaller pulley actually do that unless you are actually at the point that you've outrun the injectors or fuel pump? Isn't MAF still considered in open loop?

Keep thinking a 2.7 would work with the TRD tune and nothing else. It’s rich. I have the 2.85 and I go 10’s. 70mm TB seemed to help a little.

I would love to agree with you cause I would love for my truck to feel like it has way more poop than it does. But it just don't. I have to work to spin the tires. I have driven newer Tacoma's with the s/c and when you put the throttle down they just light up. And I have replaced both of my A/F sensors with new ones from Toyota. I have changed my wideband sensor 3 times. Cleaned my MAF probably 15 times or more. My truck seems to always run in a way that the more air I give it, the richer it is. Another guy asked the question about open loop. Asking what sensors the ECU does look at during open loop. He understood that it doesn't look at A/F sensors, but wondered if it looked at any on open loop. My understanding is it looks at nothing and just dumps as much fuel as possible. But I thought I knew a decent amount about engines and am learning quickly that they are not as simple as one is told by a factory technician. I know all of our tech's hate aftermarket anything. Lol

I’m right at about sea level. 2.6 pulley running around 10 psi. With fpr mod and my afr hits 11.3-10.8 depending on air temp. Just running trd tune.

When is the last time that you changed your spark plugs, or checked them? No vacuum or exhaust leaks anywhere?

I am thinking that you could install an adjustable FPR, then lower the fuel pressure a few psi. That would lean out your mixture.

Which weight oil do you use again?

Plugs were done 8k miles ago and used the IKH24's. Can't find an exahaut an exhaust leak but it sure sounds like I have one when I drive next to a building or road barrier. Have 19-21 in vacuum. I used to run Red line 0w-40 and change it every 3k to 5k, more often on the 3k side. As of my last change 2k miles ago I am using Service Pro Euro 5w-40. Super charger has been on the truck since 76k and am now at 113k.

Low 11s to upper 10s usually just yesterday. Sometimes the AFRs are erratic, too. Bouncing around a certain range when it's in low vacuum to low boost.

In any case the UCON just loves to dump fuel in at any sign of what it perceives to be increased load. And it'll stay rich until boost goes to -6 psi or lower. Then the truck has a mild lurch and it jumps back to 14.7.

It's hell on spark plugs, too.

Pondering I share as well. I have the 2.8 and trd flash works great. Rich, yes. I'm just greedy and want more power.
