May need you to take a look at some glass when you’re over for beer and bbq.

Not sure but think it may be Anderson with a 10 year warranty...but not sure how to tell. If it is under some kind of warranty, I’m going to try and get replacements.

I got you. I agree that for probably 99.9999999% a replacement is the far better, cheaper, and easier thing to do. Most of the projects I have been involved with have dealt with building to non traditional/common building practices. It is kind of hard to describe but it is kinda like LEED but not to their qualifications. One project is just a complete experiment for testing solar gain and thermal massing, new methods of insulating and HVAC systems. If you know what EarthShip homes are stuff like that. Green roof design, glass facades, passive solar systems, etc. It's really neat to work on projects like that because you get to see a lot of stuff that isn't the box stock std. stuff. Not saying there isn't a life expectancy or that it is the most ideal situation. Not saying you're wrong either because I agree with what you are saying.

Green building is fun especially if you stay away from building to ideologies like LEED. When you get to use creativity and not have to do certain things to earn points then there is a lot of wild stuff you can do within the building sciences. Like "floating" slabs are really cool.

I used to sell new windows in college- when I worked at Home Depot. :spy:

Back when “Low-e” did not mean a weak WiFi signal. Argon was optional. I believe both are now required in CA.

Wished I was commissiond! Everyone wanted to get rid of the anodized bronze aluminum single paine crap.

    :)

Mine is in Vegas for a conference this week. She drove her own car to my mom's house close to Greenville and I'll be sipping a cold beer when she gets back.

Now Krypton is becoming the new gas in windows. But there are a ton of different coatings they can put on windows now to get similar effects as Argon filling. There is all kinds of nifty things the building sciences are doing now to create more efficient homes but there are some big draw backs as well. That's another conversation. Just wait till you see what is coming down the pipeline for new building codes and meeting standards for energy efficiency.

Saw where they might start requiring roofs on new construction in CA to have solar panels. That wouldn't be terribly bad IMO, but also might suck for home owners to keep up if they didn't want them in the first place.

Yeah it all depends where I am at. If the windows are on the secondary story and blow a certain height above the floor then you have to have it. Also a lot of commercial real estate is going to it and insurance companies are starting to require it because of not wanting to pay out on robberies. You should mess with bullet proof glass then you'd be in a wheelchair as a paraplegic!

Don't get me started on solar. I like it as an additional power supply but if the house is not oriented correctly and the roof slope isn't at the ideal angle to capture the solar energy correctly then it's useless. There is a science to setting up solar panels correctly and a lot of Maths involved!

Oh yeah on our coast they have to have that or some sort of automated hurricane covers over the windows. That's actually smart IMO. But until roofs are attached per what the University of Miami has found again useless!

Nor government regulations that have no clue about building science or how to properly go about neighborhood development etc. I should have a PhD in this crap but sadly I don't or I'd be a rich man. Proper implementation is key just a feel good blanket regulation does nothing to proper work. My cousin sells solar he's one of those door to door salesman. His biggest hurdle is the tax breaks and incentives the gov't gives because most people that get them don't have a good site to utilize them. He tries to explain this and they just want the gov't monies!

A key case in improper solar utilization is what Chris Chirstie did up in NJ and that epic failure of solar he did. Also here in NC hacking down forests to build solar fields.:frusty:

Dunno, don't really care TBH. I get the environmental shit and all that, I really do, and I might consider solar panels in the future, but my power bill was 21 dollars last month, so for now, fuck it.

Yeah there is a lot more that can be done that is cheaper than solar panels.
