You know, actually, I get him. My old 3.4 had a HD denso fan clutch and when I would take off usually when cold just starting it would really roar with a deep woosh through 1st gear and then it would unlock and free spin.

It just sounded burly like a freight train. Always but a smile on my face when it did it.

That said if it was a constant thing it probably would have been annoying, and I could certainly feel the drag from the additional load of having to move so much more air when it did it, the engine would feel like it suddenly had a heavy weight flywheel and wouldn't rev as quickly.

My 2010 was TOO quiet when I first got it, all I could hear was the damned tick generator.

Isolated that some, got headers and a TRD exhaust, pretty happy with it now but the 2nd gen is still a smoother quieter ride than my 1st, I can only imagine the 3rd is like prius quiet.

Specially with that anemic V6 version of the prius modified atkins engine.
