How exactly did you "reprogram" it? I have never had to program a throttle body nor have I ever heard of anyone having too.

However if you disconnect the battery for a bit and then reconnect it it will relearn the throttle body positions.

Edit: Just read through the service manual and no references to programming a throttle body.

I would like to know what you did...

I learned something on this thread. I never knew I should be concerned about the butterfly getting stuck while cleaning it and moving it manually while truck is off. I’ve only done it once, with truck off and battery disconnected, being that I also cleaned the MAF sensor at the same time.

Did I get lucky that I had no issues? I thought I was doing it the correct way.

Turn the key on, press the pedal all the way to the floor and hold it for a bit, let it up, and repeat four times. My truck fired right up. Now I've got an oil light to deal with...

Okay, so for anyone who knows these engines, and is following this thread: I got passed the FBW throttle body issue by re-programing, but after seeing the oil pressure light stay on, ( I changed the engine oil and filter), I pulled the filter only to discover there was no oil. WTF! I realize I exposed the very front of the oil pan when I removed the timing cover, but I covered the area so it was protected. What am I missing here? What could possibly have effected the oil circulation? My truck has 165,000. Routine oil changes every 5,000 w/Mobil1. The oil light always stays on for a few seconds after an oil change, but this time, my filter was dry. Bone dry. ??

    no oil in pan?
something fell into pan and blocking oil pickup?
    pump lost its prime?
cat took a dump in the sump?

Did you mess with the oil pump during cover replacement? Was the rotor indexed properly on the crank?

If you got a little too ambitious with silicone sealant, you could have blocked a critical oil passage.

It seems unlikely, but possible that the oil pump went dry and it now can't get sufficient vacuum (lost its prime as @knottyrope said). The old school method when replacing oil pumps was to pack the pump with Vaseline before cranking. But I would start by pulling the spark plugs and cranking the motor with no compression until the oil light (hopefully) goes out.

It that doesn't work, time to pull the cover again and check everything.

EDIT - now that I think about it you said the truck started and ran, so no point in cranking the motor with the plugs out. :(

That is because it had a carburetor and you were pumping gas into the intake. Fuel injection doesn't work that way.

Maybe the rag you used to cover the front of the engine fell into the pan and was sucked into the pick up.

    LOL, Glad to help.

On a serious note: I only made the point as many people actually think pumping the pedal of a fuel injected car does something. It does not when the engine is not running except if it is on it moves the throttle body butterfly moves.

    See my edit above.

Neither did your comment about your 76 Nova.
    What's your point?

I got lucky. That rag shot out the tailpipe last night. Shit, I dodged a bullet.
