That makes sense. Most of CA gets cold at night- even in summer.

The BMW factory in Spartanburg uses solar panels, too.

The new CA law should eventually drive down the solar prices. I bet homes will be even smaller though!

There is more to it than that but Ca voted to keep shoving billions in taxpayer dollars and fed subsidies to keep them afloat. There was an interesting article written about the downfalls in those systems. I forget some of the reasoning but one of the biggest issues was the amount of sunlight for a given yr was grossly over estimated compared to actual #s so it was kind of a BS sales to the Ca public.

I have nothing against solar actually in the house I will eventually build I will have solar. My beef is with the implementation of it. Flat roof buildings like big plants like the BMW plant are perfect because you can aim them correctly. I have actually been trying to get our government on board with this instead of cutting forests down for solar fields. I have seen the BMW plant it's pretty amazing. Plus germany is kind of cutting edge when it comes to alternative energy. I read a lot of what comes out of their testing and evaluation of new alternative energy systems.

That and big business that can capitalize on the ignorance of people tend to oversell things as well. Which is kinda what happened there and now Ca is stuck fitting the bill.

I remember when people complained about:
Unleaded gas, CARB emissions standards, ethanol in gas, energy efficient windows, solar panels, low flush toilets, mandatory "digital TV's", and LED bulbs.

One of the reasons solar is so expensive right now is because everybody is so concerned with “harnessing the power of the sun” precisely and replacing our current energy sources (e.g. coal) with renewable energy. Just put the fucking panels (affordable now compared to even 2 years ago) on roofs (flat, angled, north, south, east, west, etc.) and use them to subsidize our current energy resources. That alone would make a huge impact. Instead everybody is so concerned with getting 100% of the solar power by aiming panels and having them chase the sun...even if, on average, 50% of the sun is harnessed, that’s 50% more than what was started with. It’s not fucking rocket science...

Right now solar should only be used as a compliment to our energy needs, not an alternative. It’s too expensive.

The other thing people who think solar (and other renewable energy) is the end all be all of greenhouse gasses don’t take into account the greenhouse gasses emitted during production of their precious solar panels, wind turbines, etc.

Always remember, CA doesn’t get “stuck” fitting any bill. CA digs its own grave. Always has...always will.

Personally I think the biggest reason why people complained was because it was forced vs. choice and forced in a way that felt like you were unable to read and research to come to your own conclusions. But that is true.

I went to an oil analysis class when I worked for Cummins. They stayed dyno or synthetic after 27-28 day the oil from from the rings leaks down the cylinder walls and back into the block. By 45 days oxidation starts to set in, by 60 days pre rust starts on the cylinder walls, by 90 days of not driving rust forms on the inner and outer part of a non sleeved block. Moral of the story drive your truck. At the least start it and let it idle once every couple weeks.

Dan there is a lot more to it than the 50% thing and what you are saying. But I get it and I agree there needs to be some use of alternative energy to subsidize our current system. But part of that is getting people to use less energy. There is a lot of ground to cover in this subject and this conversation is just scratching the surface.
Not to mention the earth's natural release of carbon emissions like when mt. st. helens blew it's lid the amount of carbon emissions equaled what LA produced for like 25 yrs or something like that. Again we are just scratching the surface on this subject.

8 years ago wasn’t so with the coal plants. I worked at Reading anthracite as a Diesel mechanic. They are the largest coal striping company on the east coast.Life was good till obama. Only been the last couple years with the new pres that the coal industry is taking off again. Slowly all the cogen plants will turn to natural gas. Hell they are putting in a pipe line right now not even 3-4 mikes from my house for natural gas. Will go from wellsboro to Maryland.
