Ok so some of you may remember yesterday we had a special guest stop by. A vendor from @XenonDepot, and as I pointed out this was the first time a lighting vendor had done this. I immediately welcomed him to our party and extended our hospitality.

Well, if you remember his post, he included a snippet from an Instagram post and couple of links to reviews. I liked what I read in the reviews.

What intrigued me the most was the design. The Xenon Depot bulbs have an adjustable mounting collar. This means the discrepancy we currently have with the high beam bulb on the passenger side can easily be corrected by loosening a set screw with the provided allen wrench. There are also no fans. They have multiple fin design heat sink.

Well as it turns out the vendor has decided I would be a good candidate to try out the new bulbs. He's asked me to provide a comparison review based on real world testing. Wanting to help our community here I agreed.

I wanted to give those of you still on the hunt the heads up to maybe wait just a week or two longer for my results. There will be nothing scientific about them. They will simply be what I and we see with our eyes. They will be as fair and true as I can possibly make them.

    Stay tuned!
    Rob

    So ...
    I installed Auxbeam F16's x2
    Lo's & Fogs
Super super happy and impressed with the drastic difference from stock.
I replaced my marker lights with led's...serious how is this accessible by anyone other than an infant? I will be scarred for a week and pretty sure I used curse words I did'nt know existed yet lol....
Replaced my Signals with Led's that said they were new and updated for hyper flashing...not sure if that happens right away or not but after install and testing so far so good..They were like the size of a small sausage lol
Holy flipn crap they are bright asf....
SO ....i replaced my reverse lights with some cheap ass china led's several months ago and one started flickering so I purchased some different ones...........has anyone ever installed reverse bulbs and found them too bright? lol I just looked at them to make sure they were working and i saw spots for about 10 mins......
Also i dont understand these fkn tail lights... owned several trucks removing a tail light was never an issue. I took my time when I initially changed the bulbs and removed both bolts then pulled straight back on the light and snap! the bottom metal nipple style prong on the light breaks off still in the hole with plastic still attached. basically the insert stayed in and the plastic on the light broke.. lucky me . I J.B. welded that beyotch back together and problem solved. I even applied a lube when putting it back. Today I was worried about it breaking when I went to change the flickering bulb.I used a pry bar style plastic tool in behind the light to assist and it still fkn broke again! Current status J.B. weld......
I just dont get it though ...both metal circular nipple style insert tabs appear the same but the female part in the truck is different on top and bottom....The driver side light comes off no problem but the bottom black insert comes out attached...Wtf just seems like a weird and inconsistent design to me...
or...am I the only one who has had an issue when removing the tail light?

Just you so far as I know man, and that sucks! Strange to say the least. Glad you're happy with the Auxbeams you added in place of the halogens! Those were my first choice based on @Parker315 review when I joined the thread.

Hold off on high beams until you read my post above.

Shame on you! There's no such thing as "too much anything" in my book!

Unless it's bee stings! One is too much.

Find a dark area and take a picture please! Or are you going to make me buy these!?

This is mainly due to wavelength, not brightness.

Most LEDs have a massive spike in short wavelength which helps give them that very white/blue look. Human eyes cannot focus on short wavelength light causing it to look blurry, and the short wavelength light scatters inside your eye causing a loss of focus. The light is actually damaging to your retinas causing you to see spots or if exposure is long enough suffer retnia damage. The result is that looking at an LED light, the LED looks massively brighter to your eye as it is essentially harmful. Human eyes have a much easier time looking at long wavelength light, even it it is significantly brighter than a short wavelength one.

See this spectrometer reading for wavelength profile comparison. That massive LED spike on the left is what causes the issues, while the LED puts out little long wavelength light.
    fullsizeoutput_bd0.jpg

In this reverse light review, the LED reverse lights were much harder to look at than the halogen ones, significantly so to where you would easily see spots. But the halogen ones drastically outperformed all 921 LEDs.

There is engineering and science behind all of this.

Damnit!! Man that sucks and I would have been SO pissed off. That’s really odd. I’ve taken my taillights off a few times and that’s never happen once. The worst thing that happen was the plastic piece that the metal prong goes into came out stuck to the prong. That was easy to remove and push back into the hole on the truck. I have WinJet led taillights now and I still have my OEM factory taillights. I can sell those to you if you’re interested.

This good to know and I await your review on them. High beams are the only bulb left that's OEM "amber puke halogen" on the truck. Hope everything comes out spectacular!

I shaved the edges down on the black plastic nipple that came attached that was to stay in. Thinkn bout putting some vaseline or something on that black nipple and maybe it will just act as a slot to hold in place and not lock in and snap off everytime.

I was aware of using black nipple, vaseline and having it stay in the hole made me chuckle.
