I remember a Thread from about a year ago where a guy went and bought a new 2017 Pro, it had about 100 test drive miles on it. He drove about 100 miles himself and the clutch was completely destroyed, either someone destroyed it test driving or he tore it up. I think the Thread got deleted because it was at the Dealer waiting for someone higher up to approve the repairs.

Good luck with the dealeship and toyota coroporate. My clutch separated at just under 17,000 mile. No go for me, they said wear item like brake pads. At that time I had been driving manuals for 22 years. But, I didn't know how to drive.

Hopefully if all goes well you will get the repair to be done for free through the arbitration process. This is not something that happens over night. But fairly quick.

Well vehicle clutches are not lubricated. Any time you ride aka slowly release the clutch and keep the friction to it. It's going to wear. What kind of terrain do you drive in? Flat land or mountains and hills? Are you downshifting to slow the truck? There are multiple things they are going to try to hit you on. Because it is a wear and tear item and specificly not covered in the warranty. I had this happen in a 02 ram with a 5 speed less than 500 miles after i bought it(had 25k) in 06 and couldnt get it covered.

It doesn’t matter how long you’ve had a third pedal. This clutch feels unique. I still wonder if I’m doing it right.

The throw out bearing could be the culprit...did they check to see if it was in specification probably not...by the looks of the disc it’s so easy to blame the user.

When the throwout bearing went on my 2nd gen at 110,000 km my clutch was still at 75%. Clutch and non lubricated drivetrain parts like throwout bearing not covered by warranty. Too it to a transmission shop, they pulled the trans and installed URD throwout hearing for $400.

Now i have a 2017 MT, hope the clutch lasts like on the 2nd gens.

I feel like these 3rd gens have been a crapshoot on quality, no matter where they’re made. I have seen long time manual drivers destroy clutches and young drivers do extremely well. It seems like there isn’t much defense on your end OP, however maybe the dealership will help you on price? It is definitely uncommon to see this on a vehicle this new especially with a competent driver.

The mileage is in city driving and highway. I bought this vehicle with 1km in it so I am sure, I wasn't abused before.

They didn't but I will give them a call tomorrow to see if they check that, the smell of burned clutch was only noticeable the day that it broke down.

Thanks for your opinion, I will definetely head there tomorrow and see what else they have to say, specially because they tried to blame the aftermarket lift kit at first( it was installed by them) . I will definitely keep this forum up to date

No, it's on a 2008. I also did a google search for clutch problems in tacomas. I found that there were others that had similar issues that I did. Still didn't help me. I took my truck to an independent shop and had it replaced for $1400.00 including the rental truck I needed while I waited for the parts to come in.

I think your friction plate is defective, and they should come clean..

I've seen a lot of burnt out clutches, never one like that... Its defective clearly...

    The adhesives have let go..

I'm currently sitting on the side of the highway in my 2018, and I'm pretty sure it's the clutch as well. I have 380km on the truck. No, I did not miss any zeroes on that number, I picked up the truck 7 days ago

$2000 for a wear and tear item? Is that a normal price for a clutch and how long are they supposed to last? I thought Toyotas were supposed to be cheap to maintain that seems like kind of BS that you have to deal with with luxury cars.
