Just turned a little over 1100 miles and the airbag light was on this morning when I started the truck. Fwiw it stayed on for my entire drive to work, I didn't turn it off and back on to see if it goes away.
Since the truck is so new I wanted to check in and see if this is a thing/known issue etc??
    Thanks!

Not heard of it. Head directly to the dealer. It's a brand new truck and it's their problem. Could be more than just the idiot light, and you need to know that.

Quick update...I procrastinated(I commute about 50 minutes to work and had some hectic weeks, hard to schedule appt.) and have an appt. tomorrow morning. Fwiw the light comes on usually in the AM almost every day on my drive to work and only 1 other time...kinda weird.
Will hopefully update tomorrow with a fix.

    *Hilarious Update*

There was an empty bottle of water jammed under the passenger seat and it was making contact with an airbag sensor connector. Me putting my quite heavy backpack on the passenger seat every morning probably depressed the seat and exaggerated the problem. They removed the bottle and the issue hasn't reoccurred yet.
I wasn't charged the $135 diagnostic fee which she said was a courtesy even though it was basically my fault...I'm not sure what I would have thought if she did try to charge me though:)

    False Alarm...
The Light is back with a vengeance; has been on each of the past 2 mornings on drive to work and stayed on after cycling the engine when I got to work. The dealer has the truck again today and they have been unable to replicate(get the light to come on). Fwiw the light tends to come on in the morning on my drive to work and less often during any in between drives. The dealer said they spoke to Toyota and haven't received any specific feedback regarding any known issues at this time. They actually drove the truck to my work just now and I replicated my morning routine in an effort to replicate the problem but I was unable to do so.
They will continue some testing and dialogue with Toyota and give me an update later.

Put a scan tool on it. Did they tell you what the code stored/pblm was ?
If it's a bag have them change it.

Just to clarify each time I have driven to the dealer, and left it there, the light wasn't on. They have scanned it and found no codes or stored codes; in addition they haven't been able to get the light to come on while they've had it.
If worse comes to worse and they don't have a resolution today, I'll have to drive it to the dealer when the light is on, leave the truck running, so they can scan it then.

Is the light only coming on when you have your "quite heavy backpack" on the passenger seat? Which light is coming on?

It has done it more frequently in the morning with my backpack on the passenger seat, but it has done it with no backpack as well. It is Light #2 on the illustration.

    Ugh...Just talked to the dealer.
She said the shop has misplaced some special diag tool that Toyota has requested they use for testing and Toyota is fully involved in the problem at this point. She ordered the new tool today and doesn't expect it until middle of next week. She suspects they'll be replacing some wiring harnesses; she was unable to specify what harness.

Side Note/Question: It just occurred to me this could be a safety issue but she hasn't; even after 2 appointments and this new info offered a loaner vehicle. Does Toyota frown upon loaners or not traditionally offer them? Would you guys suggest I ask for one...should I get one? Thoughts appreciated!
    Thanks.

    Update: 5/23/2018
Just heard from my service adviser and she said the "full cabin" harness needs to be replaced per Toyota. In addition, that harness is not in the "Toyota system" as of yet and it could take atleast 6 weeks for the part to be added and for it to be ordered by the dealership...ugh.
I'm in a loaner from Enterprise due to all the Tacoma frame recalls my dealer is doing, and the dealership is paying for it but won't pay for supplemental insurance(I have an issue with that, but perhaps that's another thread). I asked her to either A) Pay for the supplemental insurance(it's hail season here) or B) get me a loaner from the lot.
I'm a little frustrated for obvious reasons but my main issue/thinking is that there is probably a 50/50 chance other issues/gremlins may arise after this repair. Looking for thoughts/feedback from you guys...should I open a case with Toyota for a buyback? I know my issues aren't catastrophic but waiting a minimum of 6 weeks for a truck I just bought and have put 1800 miles on??
    Thoughts!?
    Thanks for reading my ramblings.

Read up on your states’ lemon laws, that’s where you will be able to best know your rights with this issue. I hate you’re having such a headache with your new truck. Hopefully it gets fixed quickly for you.

Full cabin harness ? Screw that. I would ask for a new truck and enjoy the free ride until the decision.
Hopefully a cross country trip is in the plans.
6 weeks probably will turn into 3 months total. Good chance that won't even fix it.

Same problem here. 2018, just over 2000 miles on it. First it came on just a few times. Then it was on for a good 3 days straight. Then off for a day. Now back on. Trying to find time to get it into the dealer.
I thought it might be related to the new grill I put on. Although it had come on a few times before that, but it got more frequent after I put it on. But now that Mark is saying it is a harness issue that makes me think it has nothing to do with it. FWIW it was a xtec grill, really happy with the grill though. I'll post what I found out and if they believe it's a harness issue as well.

Interesting. Seems as though Toyota was at least semi-aware of this issue as they instructed the dealer to do some wacky diagnostics and they located the bad plug/pin at that time. I know it's just the luck of the draw but I'm pretty heated about this. After owning for a few months I kinda regret a few things about my choice so I'm actually kicking around the idea of trading into the dealer for the Tacoma I want...even would consider a Tundra if I get the price down close to the Tacoma...just venting.

Just found out today Toyota has had 3 cases (Including mine now) about this issue. Second time I have taken it. I recorded when the light was on while driving and parked. They are sending a tech to check it tomorrow. But the code history does pop up when they do the scan. so that's a plus on my part for a case.

Sorry for the lack of a real update from me...
They found a bad pin within one of the plug connectors on the main harness(not sure which one). They had Toyota corporate techs on-site and they found the issue and replaced the pin within the plug. They drove my truck like crazy people over rail road tracks etc and the light didn't return. I had the truck another month or so before trading it in on my Tech & Premium equipped Cement '18 Tacoma DCLB TRDOR that I actually wanted all along...I regretted getting the optionless SR5.
So I think they fixed the issue and doubt it would return. Fwiw they needed some special tool from Toyota to track down the location of the problem; once they had the tool they found it quickly. They did order a full harness but didn't end up replacing it so atleast harnesses are available if needed.

Sorry all. Update on mine. Same thing, a pin in some harness wasn't making a good connection. Thankfully for me they found the issue in one day. They did a "temp" fix while they waited for a new harness or plug, i'm not really sure. It never came back on but after a few weeks they got the part in and replaced it in one day. No issues since. Looks like I lucked out with a good dealer, sorry to hear about others' issues.
