There's some stuff that's called Rust Bullet that sounds pretty good. I ordered some but haven't had the chance to use it.

    Appears to.

Costs about $110.00 per visit. They re-apply it on the frame and into all panels each time. They use exisitng holes unless there are none where they need to get the wand inside the panel. They only make holes where / if they need to (the initial application) and insert the rubber / plastic plugs after applying the schmoo.

They also seel cans of the stuff so you can do your own touch ups in the higher traffic araes where the stuff might wear off with washinges / wear before you get past the salt months. The cans are only about $7-8 and go a long way.

I wish they would just spend the extra $ on production costs to build a frame out of a metal that doesnt rust.

X2. How much could it cost to do it right ? I guess if they say $1 and make 1,000,000 units they saved $1,000,000. I wish they had an option - do you want things done right take this package or you can take the base model that will fall apart and rust out in 5 years.

I did go to a place to have my truck undercoated and I had to bring it back twice...forgot drill one door to spray the wax/oil coating in..missed tonnes of spots cost me $140.00

This year I went to a local auto paint supplier (Dura) in my area. Bought a Undercoating gun, 1 gal of wax/oil (black permanent undercarriage) 1 gal of oil/wax (yellow doors, engine comp) 1/2 plug caps and laquer thinner. Took my time over a few hours (2) in the driveway and coated all the underside of the truck (skipping rubber stuff) and hit the doors and hood. It cost me $140.00 but Im able to spray my truck for the next 2 seasons and my trailer.
I was having some frame rust also from rubbing the factory coating off in snow banks which left things exposed. This stuff creeps into all seams and doesnt harden 100% so it wont chip like paint.

more than i would expect...but it doesn't look like it impacts the integrity of the frame.

on one hand, i hope we don't have a major issue with rust across the board, on the other, i sure wouldn't mind them buying my truck back in anouther 5 yeras.

You were never undercoated bud. I have a 1987 ranger that was undercoated from the factory, been driven on the beach many times, 287 thousand miles on it and not an ounce of rust.... You got screwed.

BUT, that looks about normal for not having it, mines about the same at the first few pics, I'm treating mine with a two part Rustoleum rattle can, automotive primer and gloss black. Wire brushed, cleaned with solvent and applied. Looks great! I'll take some pictures down the road.

It's the salt they use on the roads up north. I got a 08 and there is no rust on the frame. Except when the cap fell of the wheel i have some minor rust should I be concerned? BTW to the OP what kind of tires do you have?

honestly you can speculate on diferent products till the cows come home, but the best and only productive preventative solution to this problem would be to hose down the undercarriage and underbody every time its driven in salty conditions...EVERY time...I know its a hassle, but if you start when the truck is new, you'll never reach this point. i jus sold a 16 year old truck that spent its life in CT, driven every winter and had nowhere near the rust on this poor guys truck...Gotta get that stuff off the metal or it WILL eat it.

As for the OP, I would say you're waaay beyond, sanding and wire wheels...go buy a decent sandblaster from grainger (or some other industrial supply place) and go to town on the entire underbody...then take it to a reputable place and have it undercoated completely...then try as best as you can to hose that crap off asap after snow and salt...

    Just my $.02

I didnt get ripped off cause I didnt pay for it, but it was undercoated to cover the rust before i bought it, you can see it flaking off in some of the pics.

I have only taken the truck in mud three times in the year I have owned it, two of the times were just recently since I got my new tires. I am guessing the previous owner didnt clean it, I try to keep it clean but didnt wash it perfectly before taking these pics.

They dont salt the roads where I live in manitoba, but the truck is from ontario where they do salt

I thought the same thing but there are some pictures that the frame looks like it was coated. It has to be resprayed every year or at least inspected for wear or rubbed off areas. The under body its self on the cab looks silver which seems like they didnt do it?? Mine was all black.

some pics dont show any coating cause they only did it on the outside of the frame so you cant see rust when your looking at the vehicle, they didnt coat the whole undercarriage or the inside of the frame. Like I was saying just enough so I didnt see the rust when i bought it
