You can. I think it's just money wasted, personally. I've always ran regular (85) for all my vehicles. Even, as mentioned above, for my LC that recommends Premium. I've talked to service advisors and techs who all run just regular as well. But it's an expensive piece of equipment. Run what you makes you comfortable.

Exactly. That 45 mph cruise in 6th feels like rumble strips on 87. No such feeling on 93.

    What's up with your diff?

I put ethanol treatment in all of the lawn equipment. Fortunately the atvs stay at hunting camp and there is ethanol free gas available nearby .

My Generator says it should have E-Free 87 but if not available to just use Premium, I always add Sta-Bil in it too.

Urban myth. Your fuel pump sits inside a “cup” of gasoline which is the absolute last part to drain out. You would have to drain your tank down to less than .1 gallons left to expose the fuel pump on a Tacoma.

Other makes and older cars may have had this issue, but it is not a problem on the Tacoma.

Run it till the light comes on.

I might look into the treatment. E free gas is so expensive I never bother. I'm getting a 4 wheeler here soon and will then probably bite the bullet and buy the expensive stuff. I do know my Honda powered mower would like it since it runs like shit on regular gas. Kinda like my truck lol.

^^ This. Can't tell you how many times I've ran it to the light... and then a few more miles and have never had a problem. 87 regular every time. Never used any fuel cleaner. These are Tacomas, not Ford and Chevy. :D

Haven't been able to run the cheap gas in many years !!:pout:

My 02 Pre Runner has a supercharger so I've got to run 91 octane

My go fast car needs a minimum of 110 octane and at $72 per 5gal can or $700 for a 55 gal drum that hurts the wallet !!

The Generator was a very good investment as we seem to get more than our fair share of power outages down here.

    Does Gas matter???

Yep, truck won't run without it...:)

I run 87 in mine all the time as well. I have tried e10 vs. pure gas, and there was no difference in fuel mileage. Like others have said though, pure gas in my mower, boat, bike, and small engine stuff. I have run my truck 10 miles past "refuel now" warning...not intentionally, but that's a different story, and definitely not one I want to repeat.

It doesn't matter, just put some stabilizer in it if your going to let it sit. The extra octane only really helps if your racing. Used to run 109 from time to time in my ATV's. Probably still a waste of money. LoL

I've had good results with Chevron 91 with a bottle of Lucas fuel injector cleaner at ea fill up

Pretty good explanation from another thread from a few days ago... And I can attest that tuned you can feel the noticeable "unlocking" of power with the added advance in timing which this engine was originally made to run (albeit on a different vehicle). But, the average Taco owner isn't going to buy a truck to haul/tow/play in and run expensive gas.. not the right market for it and thus it's tuned and engineered to survive on regular gas at the high compression ratios.
