Then you can't lump the people that don't have a degree, but have the knowledge, with those that don't have a degree and don't have the knowledge.

No, plumbing companies don't but we then pressure kids to get a degree because that's "what you do" if you want to be successful. Which isn't true. We downplay the trades as beneath a successful or intelligent person.

I'm more proud of being able to learn quickly and teach myself things as well as what I have accomplished in my job than I am of some stupid piece of paper.

Oh no! So you mean you have to do some flipping work and better your interview process? I'm not saying that you have to hire them in order for them to prove what they know. Figure that out during the interview process. I've given technical interviews so I know it's possible. The only time you spend is interviewing. You could also quickly do phone interviews to weed out the people who are BSing their skills.

The sad part is you don’t even have to show up to class EVER to get a passing grade.

I am a dealership painter/bodyman I work very hard . I have an amish work ethic . I come in an hour early every single day and also stay late . I help out my other coworkers when I can (for free) . I also try to have an upbeat attitude.
I paid for my mods with cash and have enough put back to go buy a brand new tacoma . My technique is to never dip into savings and only buy hard parts when I've got a little extra . This believe it or not is my family vehicle . We use it often for family outings and it's also my DD . I've got a touch over 8k in it and I've done all the work myself . To be fair I did get rear ended and that gave me 3k towards my rear bumper. We actually use it a lot. People are right it is a bad financial investment. It does wonders for the wife and I and our two boys . A great investment in us as a family. We just got back from a cross country trip from Georgia to San Diego.

    This and that...
There are those cases or schools for sure. Fortunately/unfortunately we have to give these students every opportunity we can. Some just need to feel success due to an insane home life, others are just lazy from learned behavior or poor parenting. I have one student transitioning to the opposite sex, while still trying to maintain the crazy life of a teenager, who lives at home with schizophrenic siblings and a bed ridden grandmother, who's lost her mother to drug use. Passing classes or showing up for class is probably the last thing on his mind now. But, I will do what ever I can in this situation to find a path to graduation at our school or another type of high school. There are those cases where you have to get creative to get them to a diploma.

Skilled trade jobs are not for everyone- they usually require spacial thinking skills, dexterity, and physical endurance.

These jobs also usually take a toll on your body, and injuries are not uncommon.

Successful trades people usually love what they do (most of the time lol) and earn enough to support a family.

Not to over simplify, but most of the guys I work with are pretty furgal, like me. I usually wait for something to break, before I "mod" it, lol.

They are all street pharmacists. Why else do you need an offroad trailer with your DCLB?

I'll bite. I was speaking present tense. What is the issue with using is if? I could see using is that but don't see anything inherently wrong with is if. I could have used punctuation "What's way more important, is if people like you,"

Help me out teach! Also mad props for the meme!

As for the post, 100% agree that the more educated you are the more doors open for you. My beef was specifically with someone waving a degree around like it makes you better, smarter, more capable, than others.

For your sister, rework the resume. All the transcribing experience needs to be presented as office experience in highly demanding environments such as doctor offices.

    Stay in school kids!

I am a contractor/sbo of a trade that is "blue collar". The comment about injuries is something a lot of people don't consider. I've done what I do for 20 plus years and feel every single one of them. With SS not kicking in until 72 for my generation, most(virtually all) physically break down long before that. Having a degree to fall back on is always a good idea. Having another specialty to transition to is almost a requirement. A degree helps with this tremendously. I'm hoping to transition to something myself soon and then retire early. SS isn't enough to retire on I'm and shouldn't be counted on at my age.
Basically blue collar work is fine, but it's smart to have a backup plan.

My wife hates that I'm on here. She wants me to just be happy I have the Tacoma. I mean I super happy I have it, but it'd be awesome if I could drive over a mountain every weekend too.

This post is 100% serious. You implied degrees are better with the youtube grad comments. I am young so still have a lot of life lessons to learn but I do break 30 next week. I do manage the IT department for a multinational billion dollar company. I do oversee the hiring process. I also understand my field may be different than other fields so the following things are true for my field.
A degree is a good tool to get an in person interview straight out of college. That's it. If people don't like you in an in person interview it doesn't matter what degrees, certifications, experience you have. You are not getting the job.

Secondly, If you have 20 years job experience no one cares where you went to college, what your gpa was, how many minors you had. I don't even care that you have a degree. I want to know what you have been working on for the last 20 years. What have you learned in the last 20 years. What certifications have you achieved in the last 20 years. Show me code examples. If you can not leverage 20 years of job experience to land a job, a degree sure as shit isnt going to help, which leaves your options as McJob. I think degrees are less useful down the road then the day you got it.

    This and that...

Whats way more important is if people like you, because no one wants to work with someone who thinks they are better than everyone else.

Hahahahaha... Thanks! Just thought you meant to say "What's way more important are people like you who think they are better than everyone else. No one is going to want to work with you."

Kinda sounds like you're calling him important first, then saying no one is going to want to work with him.

Thanks for letting me vent on your post. Was just delivered this so back to normal.
