I'm a little leery with putting a remote start in but you pretty much need them here in Canada. Just putting some feelers out there for the Canadian and US guys what they are putting in that works well. I would really like to find a good plug and play. Thanks.

The only plug and play I know of is the Evo thing. But that has some bad reviews. The other option that seems pretty good is the @kbvoodoo one

I have a Viper system (can't recall which one it is), but it has a range of about a mile and I get feedback when I remote start it. Works really well, IMO. The downfall that I have seen with any of the aftermarket remote start systems is that the truck will turn off when you open the doors. Not really that big of a deal, as the truck will be warmed up.

Edit: Truck will shut off when I put my foot on the brake. NOT when I open the doors. Thank you @Jonemaughan

Mine stays on unless I put my foot on the break, has a 20 minute run time before kicks off. Only downside is if I have my lights on they do not turn off if the truck turns off without the key. So killed my battery once

Assuming you have H-Key and an automatic since your truck is SR5. I have a Fortin EVO One that I'm happy with. Had a non remote key made and added one of their 2-way long range kits. Can also use 3x lock on OEM remote. I think their are more options for H-Key trucks now, but not sure which ones. Also Fortin has plug in harness now.

I've have my KB Voodoo one installed since they first came out and its still working perfectly. Easy to install. Range is as far as your key fob will reach which isn't a problem for my situation.

Toyota now offers their own remote start for the auto Tacoma's. Won't void your warranty if you have a driveability issue. It is design to work and communicate with the other modules and can be scanned with Techstream. If you decide to use an aftermarket remote start make sure it's installed with T harnesses so that it can be removed easily to prevent any warranty issues.

Yes I found the 12 volt solutions but they are only sold in the states and if I purchased one I don't know if anyone here in Winnipeg would install it for me.All electronic shops want to install their brands to warranty it. I heard Toyota US installs the 12 volt solutions because it is plug and play and pretty much made for the Tacoma's. I'm not confident enough with electrical.

Subbed, looking at remote starts. I have a 2017 Trd push button. Do I need a hkey? I’m assuming not but idk.

No, if you have push button start you need a kit made for PTS not H-Key. SR, SR5, and TRD manuals have H-Key. I believe you'll find more plug and play options for PTS. I think the KB Voodoo for the first PTS I saw. Fortin also has options for you.

Ya somehow I just do not trust solder this and solder that. I know you want a solid connection but would rather have plug and play.
