Shock and Strut replacement

I need to replace my shocks and struts whats a good setup. My friend keeps telling me to get ranchos as Monroe has a rebate now but are they any good?

 

You probably are not gona find many people on here that will recommend the ranchos. Some of the most popular are the Bilstein 5100s, but they most likely are not available due to nationwide backorders. Are you wanting to lift your vehicle or just need to put on new shocks?

 

My truck is in the shop getting the Billys installed right now

 

I would like to lift it eventually (2-4 inches) but i can't afford it as of now.

 

I am in the process of upgrading my suspension, and am putting on Bilstein 5100s, but as Dan points out, there is a nationwide shortage, and they are a little spendy. A few of the vendors on this site just got some in (after several months), and they were all gone pretty much the next day.

The 5100s can be used in conjuction with a lift of up to 3 inches, but also at stock height, and also just to level the front end with the back. I have attached a brochure about the 5100s so you can see if that is what you want.

If you do not intend to do any lifting, another alternative may be the aftermarket Bilstein HD shocks. [whoops, slow post]

Reagarding Ranchos, I had some on my 93 Toyota, and they were really harsh and stiff. I can't recall what model, but a really basic one. On rough highway, it made me want to stop driving. Really bad.

I have Rancho 5000's on mine and am happy with them. Don't understand why there is so much hate for them.

Thanks guys. I was looking around today and quite a few people were saying that the KYB gas adjusts were a good set. Are they?

The new OME 90000 Series are really great shocks.

 

Rancho is a good shock, I'd go with just about ANY shock other than a Monroe but I digress I recently put ride height adjustable Bilstein 5100's & couldn't be happier, its a pretty easy process changing shocks yourself but first & foremost you have to have a coil spring compressor to safely do this......

 

The monroes on my Bronco lasted just under two years. The Billie 4600's on my '93 were going strong four years later.

Nothing really wrong with Rancho; They're well built and work and last good, but I feel they're overpriced. Furthermore, once you run your first set of Bilstiens, you won't be missing anything Rancho.

 

If the truck is stock the Bilstein HD's are a great shock. That's what I run in mine. They were readily available 3 months ago when I bought mine. I will say they are HORRIBLE with back orders as a company though.

 

I've got KYB's on mine. Seem almost as good as the OEM shocks.

 

how much should it costs to have a set - labor wise- of 5100's installed on an 05 Taco PreRunner? Also, How do I know what setting to tell the mechanic to dial them in on?
