Yeah I replaced the crappy one that came from the factory and used the same breather that all the other threads are referring to (still from Toyota). It’s the same breather that’s used for the front diff which, from what I understand, is also a two way.

Ok I know what you’re saying.

A lot of members have even made their own and put an aquarium filter on the end and put it up higher in the bed or engine bay and it’s open both ways.

I like the way that ARB union looks. Sexy little piece. Is that hard plastic line or is it more flexible?

They’re hard plastic of some sort, but it’ll last just as long as anything else unless it gets pinched.

The great thing about the ARB is you can run up to 4 lines into it. I’m going to do the front diffs, Tcase and manual trans even though they are extended. Just want to change out the one way OEM breathers which I’m not a fan of. I think the little mother fuckers have caused millions of dollars of damage for Toyota owners and the company.

2nd gen at 180k miles and been chasing the seep by retorquing the diff bolts too............I like how they receipt says removed diff and replaced gasket all easy peasy but doesn't removing diff still require removing brakes and pulling axles to free up diff? Not seeing how it wouldn't. That makes the DIY job much more involved. I won't replace that gasket unless putting in new axle seals, new brake shoes (and drums if needed) and would be concerned about pinion seal as well.........at my mileage. Definitely not blaming the rr diff breather mod tho.

I had the same issue on my 2016 7k miles and no leak. When I removed the factory breather the diff was under vacuum which I believe they are 1 way valves or it was broken. Well after installing the new valve 2 way it start leaking just like your pic. torqued each bolt a 1-2 lbft more and leaks been gone 35k later.

Well I did the ARB breather change and relocation at about 3000 miles on the odometer, so I don't think there was time for any side effects to happen. The diff was highly pressurized I know that and the stock breather was basically stuck shut after I took it off.

Diff breather relo has been on for about 6-8K miles now after the TSB work. Several wheeling trips, highway driving, and a couple water crossings and there’s no seepage/weeping any longer. I’ve been keeping my eye on it almost every week and don’t see anything

Update - there is slight weeping again but it is no longer on in random locations on the diff it is more focused on the drivers side half of it.

    Taking it to toyota tomorrow.

Awesome did you actually change out the breather as well like an ARB or two way or keep the stock breather and put up higher?

Ok looks like it’s at it again, keep updating I’m interested what Toyota says

I changed out the breather to the one that is linked at the bottom of the page. I might end up purchasing the ARB kit just because. Granted, the weeping isn't as bad as before but I might have just caught it at the right time.

I will see what the dealer says tomorrow.

I would have hoped they torqued to the new spec from a couple months ago. I could torque them myself but I would rather have toyota deal with it since they should honor their workmanship

Thanfully it's only a 10 minute drive from me but I also wanted to get that TSB done for the funky acceleration.

Dealer called and did not notice any weeping. To be frank, it didn't look like anything to me either but I wanted to be sure. No diff oil were on my bolts and it wasn't wet to the touch like last time. So maybe it was just some mud sticking onto it from my previous wheeling trip.

I used a small gas filter for my breather mod end. So it breathes... both ways.

Did they just install the TSB for you or they tested it first and go from there?

My dealer here said they need to test first. Im thinking how are you going to check at 7am appointment the start of rush hour traffic..
