Back to the Future Tail lights

No one's holding @mesojdm's feet to the fire. And he can certainly do whatever he likes, be it a one-off set or whatever. And yes, his core motivation is obviously more on the intrinsic side.
Although considering that he offers custom tails and other items for sale (coin holder, for example), I think there are a handful of folks, myself included, that are genuinely hoping he'll add the BTTF tails to his repertoire.
My comment was merely to provide a vote of confidence.

 

I'm making these for a few reasons;

1)I feel like I can match or better Toyota's version
2)Having the only set in existence makes me feel warm and fuzzy
3)Because I can
4)I have an abundant supply of LEDS
5)For those sweet @ChadsPride likes

 

I am thinking of taking a trip for thanksgiving in Reno... I can swing by and give you my first born in trade for the first set of BTTF tail lights. Lol or I can just bring you a beer and we can chat..... well you can talk while I drool all over your truck.

 

I read you loud and clear didn't mean for my comment to sound snotty if it came across that way. I've been stalking this site before I registered and quickly took notice of @mesojdm 's led work, some crazy talent. I'd put his custom work on my dream wall of tail lights I would like to have at one point. So far really wanting some of those current gen Cadillac Escalade tails for my computer room. Sorry went off topic there.

 

Funny story..
I actually Bought an Escalade LED tail light last week so I can dissasemble and reverse engineer it. Caddy has some killer optic engineers and I'm curious to see how it ticks.

Please do highlight any interesting things you may find! That uniform glow and sharp lines makes me think of Gundams for some reason. How much did that run you?

 

Ahem. One of two sets. Since one is going to me.

 

Couple hundred. Cracked housing, but I'm ripping it apart anyway. With designs like this... it's not about quantity but rather efficiency. I'm betting there are only a dozen or so LEDS. But with proper placement and correct optics they can blend together making the illusion of a solid plasma beam. At the end of the day they have the $$$, resources, and time to create something like that...I am but a peon in comparison.

A market you could potentially tap in to as well are the military/gov't employees purchasing Tacos overseas in places like where I am in the UK. The UK requires a light conversion on anything that doesn't have amber turn signals. A bolt on option like this would be ideal instead of trusting some asshat to splice a new light in to the factory harness and not hack up the wiring in the process.

I'm currently awaiting the delivery of my brand new `18 MGM TRDOR and I'm sweating this exact thing at the moment, as I've heard varying stories about the quality of the work of the company Military Auto Source uses. Wondering what kind of rats nest I'm going to eventually find. =/

Anyway, just a thought.

 

Does the law require an amber colored lens, or just an amber turn signal? I already make my custom ones with switchbacks at the bottom (Amber turn+ White reverse)

Just an amber signal. Do you happen to have any of the switchbacks available? Are they direct plug and play?
