I don't think it's a phone issue. Because I've had the same phone and have had flights without a single hiccup. And I've had the same issues on my tablet that I fly on occasionally too. So it's not limited to a single device that's having issues.

So I posted on the DJI Mavic forum (which by the way, is total garbage. We are spoiled here on TW with how nice everything is. thanks @tcBob) Anyways, someone there said that the OE cable is total shit and is likely my issue. I will be giving another test flight tomorrow with the USB to lightning cable, hopefully that solves the problems. I will say though about the DJI forum that their staff is good at responding. One of them gave some "advice" (that I already did because I'm not computer stupid) to help solve the DJI assistant issue I'm having. But I will reach out to them on that topic tomorrow because I'd still like to get that to work so I can export my flight data/black box

Just curious, have you tried turning off WiFi on your phone to make sure it's using the radio in the remote?

No, as an sUAS operator it is still your duty to see and avoid manned traffic, and you shall give way to all other aircraft.

Does anyone have any experience with the dji spark? Im thinking about picking one up. Im also considering the dji maveric but im not sure quite yet. Looking to use it to film my wheeling trip out west and looking for something portable that i can take on a hike and get some scenic shots. What would you guys recommend?

what you want to know? i use a spark, and i've done all of those things listed. the flight time isn't as long as the mavic, i do have 3 batteries though. i've got some pretty awesome shots from the spark doing hikes and just cruising around the ocean, im currently trying to edit a bunch of small beach videos right now.

Lol yes. I don’t ever have WiFi turned on my phone. And this was happening while on a trail run too. I’ve done plenty of research on it. I’m hoping it’s jist the cable issue

It depends on what you want and how much you want to spend. The Mavic shoots in 4k if that’s important to you, but I have never once filmed in 4k I always film 1080. The mavic has a better gimbal.
The spark is more portable and less weight than the mavic. But the mavic is definitely packable on a hike.

Oh cool! Do you use the app to control it or did you buy the controller? Also how is the video quality?

I have the spark. It’s not bad for the price at all. Defiantly get the remote and the OTG cord. I just flew mine through the mountains at Tahoe following the car and was super impressed. But the life battery isn’t the best.

Whats the OTG cord? Is that basically a car charger for it? Also do you have any photos taken with it?

I have the mavic and use the goggles to fly it along with the controller and iPhone. The goggles give a whole new perspective. Much more immersive. If you turn your head the camera turns on the drone making filming towards the side while flying forward pretty easy. I also let the kids wear the goggles and fly with the iPhone and controller and take the kids for “ rides “. They dig it. The Mavic is very packable too. I have everything in one pack which lets me take it as a carryon on planes too.

Those pics I posted are all being taken while I’m about 2 miles away too. The Mavic has really good range.

    4 mile range.

I've only ever flown it about a mile away though. Which is still very impressive.
