Just remember that the 1.5 gallons is spread throughout the whole tank and your pump might suck air when making turns or on hills

Well my 80 (when I had it in the mid 90s), was better than my 9MPG FJ62 and the 8MPG FJ60 before it :D

I think I witnessed an ACTUAL dinosaur crawl out of the tailpipe last time I rode with him.

Yessir. 14 miles on digital. I drove another 12 and then put 19.5 in. That means I had roughly 2.75 gallon when light came on.

Guess that’s ok, I’ll just try harder to fill up at 1/4. Problem is a drive a lot!! 7500 miles on this truck in 3 months. This thing already has a small tank and filling up every 3/4 tank is a PITA

The thing is though, you aren't filling up any more often... Think about it for a second. You are just changing where on the gauge the needle is when you pull up to the pump.

EDIT: Jeebus, that's a lot of miles!

Gas tank holds 21 gallons, indicator comes on with about 2 left. As a previous post has said, you'll get roughly 30 miles more.

Anyone make a larger oversize replacement tank? Having to fill after 300 miles loaded, or even 400 miles empty is more often than I like - used to 36 gallon tank on my '01 Dodge that would routinely take me 600 miles. There were folks out there who made larger tanks for the Dodge - anyone making something for Tacoma?

I also had an auxiliary 70 gal. tank for long trips, but that was diesel, not gas behind the cab. Also don't have 8' box anymore.

Also coming from a few Land Cruisers, had an 84 Fj60 and still have my 97 FZJ80.

My Tacoma (SR 2.7l 5spd Ute) is awesome when it comes to fuel consumption. Last tank I got 430 miles of range at 22 mpg before refueling. At no point did I ever go past 225 miles with my 80 and it’s 25g tank. I’ve got a James Baroud rtt mounted at bed height, stock tires, no air damn. I’m just stoked on the fuel efficiency compared to past rigs.

Can do a weekend trip to the oly peninsula and a week of commuting on a single tank. When I dd’d My 80, that would have been 2-3 tanks minimum. I do not miss the time & money spent at the pump. I might even throw the air damn back on just to see how high I can go.

I always try to keep at least a third full. It must be nice having gas stations that close together that you guys can run to the low fuel light. Where I usually go on weekends, I have to worry if the owner at the closest one is too hungover to open up, otherwise I have to make the 75 mile drive into town to fill up.

If I'm normal roads in the city I don't sweat it, but if I'm about to drive anywhere remote you best believe I start sweating. haha

As a general rule, I never let my gas go too low because there is debris and other stuff in the tank. That said, I go my mileage between fills.

Every car I own or have owned gets the low gas test . I throw a five gallon an in it when the low gas light comes on then drive it till it stops. I check the mileage and have a really good idea of how far I can go.
That being said I also fill up when I’m between 1/4 and 1/2 a tank .
I’ve never run out of gas ⛽️ on accident !
