I have the Mavic with the MAXX mod setup from drone world. They say the range is 6 miles. I’ve gone 3. It comes with 3 different antennas for use. One is very directional but long range and one is omnidirectional but shorter range. I forget the other, lol. I only use the omnidirectional one. I got some good footage of a bald eagle flying behind the house catching fish. Nothing National Geographic but still cool for a nobody like me.

Never heard of that MAXX mod setup before. I'm perfectly content with my standard 4 mile range haha. I'm too scared to even fly it out of LOS haha. The furthest I've flown I think is about 1.5 miles and it was in Joshua Tree and just followed a road so if it went down I'd be able to find it haha. It takes some beautiful shots though, I love it, when it's working properly that is.

I really do recommend the DJI goggles though. It’s the closest thing to flying. The first time I used them my hands got sweaty and actually made myself nauseous. Lol. The goggles kind of transport you to the drone. Hard to explain. I sit out on my dock and fly from there. It’s very relaxing now that I don’t make myself nauseous anymore.

The nauseous part is what I fear will happen to me. That, and the fact they're like 200 bucks.

One thing I have not tried but want to is the tracking feature. I want to take some videos of my Porsche on some twisty roads without having to fly it. That would make me nervous not seeing what it’s doing up there while I’m driving.

They must have come down in price. Mine were 500$. I think they are 400$ now. But 200$ is cheap. You can also hook up 2 pair simultaneously and have a passenger.

It's not a great function. In theory it's awesome. In actuality, it sucks and barely works. At least in my experience
I thought I saw them for 200, I just googled them they look to be around 350. Still way more than I want to spend on them

Tracking function works pretty dang good. I wouldn't use it in twisty roads or anything but if you're above the tree line or in an open area, it works just like it should. The last part of this video is used with the tracking system where I'm in the vehicle.

It’s whole different world with goggles. If you can, try them.

Thanks, i have a few more scenic places like this one on my youtube channel as well. You can see them if you'd like by clicking the half hid link in my sig lol. I forgot but the tracking function was also used with us hiking through the creek there as well.

I use a controller with cord,I haven't had issues yet like some people. Ive flown it about 1 mile into the ocean and its been good, I think for what the spark is the video is just fine. I can always edit to 4k but I shoot in 1080 like most people with the mavic do. I'm no professional and I do this for a hobby so,for the time being I think, its great

What software do you use for your picture editing? Photoshop or lightroom?

So, somewhat good news. Did a test fly with the usb to lightning cable and not a single disconnect. I don’t want to jump to conclusions but this may be the solution to the disconnect problems :fingerscrossed:

    .
Can you folks recommend any good places for research on the small 150mm fpv stuff? Did a little reading here and looked at a bunch of YouTube videos and almost ready to get going on a beta85, taranis and some goggles. I've had a few cheerson los nanos and flown a friends phantom many times so I feel comfortable with basic flight. Now I'm trying to get informed enough to step up to a quality radio and goggles and make sure all is compatible. Have a little over $600 set up picked out on Amazon but I'm sure I'm missing something.
