My 06 is the same way when compared to the 2013-2015 I’ve installed s/c’s on. I’m hoping when I finally install my ucon it will pep up the lanches a little

 

The pressure rise in a closed system is proportional to the temperature rise. So if filled with fluid that is at ambient temperature, any increase it temp will affect a rise in system pressure. With a 15# cap in my tank, it rose enough to blow excess fluid out. Theoretically , if one knew the exact amount of expansion that would occur at the maximum system temperature, and one could accurately leave enough air space in the sealed system, then an unvented cap could be used. But since there are so many variables, almost every manufacturer uses a pressure relief type cap.
In your example of a failed radiator cap, the system is not sealed, so it never pressurizes. It would however purge itself of excess fluid as it expands, hence the lack of fluid soewing from the filler neck when the cap is removed.
And let us not forget the ancillary benefit of a pressurized system. Despite the fact that a 50/50 mix of ethylene glycol and water has a boiling point somewhere in the vicinity of 206*, with 15# of pressure in a sealed system, that figure climbs north of 230*(maybe 240, fuzzy memory on the exact number).

Fluid dynamics is not my field of expertise per se, so a little brush up on education here is always a good thing.

That does beg me to wonder about my own 1 gallon aftermarket reservoir I have and the lack of a diaphragm within the cap it uses. I've never had an issue with it though.

 

Probably because the sc coolant temperature change is not that drastic. Certainly nowhere near that of the engines cooling system.
Also, how much air space do you have at the top of the reservoir? As the coolant expands (it is a small amount) it will compress the air at the top of the res. This will pressurize the entire system unlike the stock vented cap. If you dont have any leaks then I'm sure your fine.
It would be interesting to tap the top of the res and put a pressure gauge on it. Vent the system when it cool then run the engine on along trip to heat up all the coolant and check the gauge to see what your system pressure is.

 

Have any of you with a six speed manual trans ever change the master cylinder under the clutch pedal? What is the procedure to replacing it, so I don't dump brake fluid all over the floor? I would really appreciate it if someone could kinda walk me through the steps. If you can help me, could you please PM me.

I feel like there is a lot of valuable stuff that has been discussed that is now buried away. And I don't want to overwhelm the front post with every little thing we discuss but It would be much nicer in finding some info.

Changed all my drive train oils today, and installed @Roostfactor's belt wrap mod. Great job man! This thing works. Surprised the s/c doesn't come with it.

 

Dummies at the trans shop forgot to order the ratiotek kit otherwise that would have been done too. Only 11 on ebay and Amazon is out. If you're thinking of getting it done might want to order sooner than later.

 

Exactly... i have no intention on doing this soon, but they seem to be vanishing. I had 1 show up wednesday and itll be on my shelf for who knows how long.

 

Just want the trans at it's best for my right foot
