Just bought a 2018 Tacoma today☺️ and I’m seeing “horror stories” of people haveting to cut their frames with a 6” lift.

So I’m wondering if anyone is running a 4” lift without chopping, or if it’s even possible??

Then the only way to lift above 3" is a drop bracket lift, which means part of the frame gets cut out and their bracket gets welded in.

Thanks! I’m very excited as I am a avid Toyota fan boy.

So with cutting the frame that has to take a tole on the ol’ warranty then hey?

I was thinking of a 4” or 6” lift on my truck until I watched this video ... it’s very detailed and talked me right out of one of these lifts

Yeah it definitely would. If later years were to ever have rust issues like first and second gens, then you'd probably have a hard time getting them to replace your frame. My recommendation would be to do a lot of research and reading and see if it's worth it to you.

Everything that's touched of course and anything the dealer can blame as a causality effect.

Keep in mind that lift does not equal ground clearance, nor does it automagically create space for jumbo tires.

Especially a drop bracket (typically 6") lift. Your clearance is still a function of the axle line. Even though your body may have better approach/departure angles.

Tire fitment is much more affected by wheel selection (all fitment parameters), body cutting, pounding and chopping.

You'll find, with some research, that a 2-2.5" lift is optimum for not too many side effects.

You'll also find you can run a full 33" tire with no lift at all if you pick the right tire and wheel combo.

Or get out the saw and fit 35s on a 2.5"~ lift

Good point, rust warranty out the door basically. Thanks guys definitely going with a 3”

Side note** looking to purchase 18” rims with a +20 offset, probably just stick with 265 33” rubber. Would I have rub issues? And would it stick of from the truck much? Don’t want rocks thrown at the truck as I travel a lot of gravel. Lol

I would just go with a 3 inch or less, plenty of clearance for anything offroad unless your trying to build a big rock crawler

The biggest tire you can do is a 255 85 16 for stock and that gives u a 33” tire basically. I guess with 18” wheels you could do a 255 65 maybe or 75. But if you don’t want skinnies and you go with 285 you’ll have to do a CMC

CMC - cab mount chop = metal cutting and welding

I'm happy with my 32s (265/70R17) and no rubbing or chopping needed... 33s can usually fit with no or minimal rubbing. Consider your bankroll and if you're okay being liable - go for it.

You can do a 3 inch suspension lift plus 1 inch body lift.
